I am super excited to finally be getting a thumper! This beauty will be in my garage in two days time.

Blake - I may have a couple of questions for you that Komito wasn't sure about.

Decompressor

I have a 96 xr400. Does it have a auto and a manual decompressor. If I install a stage 2 Hotcam cam shaft will I still be able to use my manual decompressor. I know it is probably a dumb question but I don't know.

So please let me know.

Thanks

Yes, I think so, as you're not altering the valve train components in the head cover, nor the way in which they interact with the valves themselves. A properly adjusted manual decomp system should still activate the right exhaust valve.

Question First Post

Well I have been lurking for a while now and I am about to buy my first motorcyle in a very long time. The last motorcycle I owned was a 1981 Honda CR-125R when I was 15 yoa. I am looking at a 2004 XR4R that has very little use (400-600 miles), so what is it worth?

That is the last year model made and almost brand new, I'd give 4K for it easy. I've had my '00 since new and it has been a fantastic motorcycle for trailriding.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, I paid $3600 for my 04 last fall, still had the original tires on it. Had been sittin for a while so I had to clean the carb an while it was open I put in some fatter jets.
Great little bike

does anyone know where I can get one of these head lights?????

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"
