CJ,

Have you got any experience with the Scorpion MX mid hard tires?

These are DOT and John scored one for pretty cheap. I'm going to mount it on the KLR for this relatively short trip to the sierras.

I'm interested in comments from people that have used this tire and wondering if the ~3-350 miles of pavement (each way) will cook it before we get to the dirt roads.

Hi Charlie,

No, I have not run those. When trails requires a full nobby I run these.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ront-Tire.aspx

Not DOT, but I've put over 2,000 miles on them on some trips w/o any issue. This is on my 950. Many of y buddies laughed at me until they tried them for themselves.

They were only half worn out when I pulled them off. For about $35 from a Parts Unlimited dealer, I just put a new one on when ever I need. Even you could afford that C.

I'm sure you'll have no issues w/ the Scorps, just keep them aired up.
Have a safe trip.

CJ, I think you've achieved "that status"

Thanks for the update! I picked up Mase's former 950 and I feel like part of the cool club now.. thanks to you! Can't wait to see what you're gonna pull out of your sleeve next.

I guess I wasn't clear.

I'm not using the crummy Metzelers. I'll have the usual premium Cheng Shin C858's mounted for this trip. At less than $30 for a rear I don't mind pulling them off half used either.

John will use the Scorpion MXs on his KLR since you forced him to wear out the MT-21 he had on last.

CJ, how much extra room do you get under the seat using the 990 plastic? I'm thinking that would be a good place to put an aux fuse block instead of inside the tool "bucket" like some others have.

Got it...Now that make sense.
It's a KLR, how much power does it really have. I'm sure he'll be fine. All he has to do is keep up to a superbly ridden DR350.

If you do some trimming and grinding of the "Big" box under the seat it's the same size as the 950. (Need to remove all the mounting tabs for the ABS box)

The little rear pocket I put the relays in for the winch would hold a fuse block no problem....I think. I can check to night on that for you, I don't have the bike here to check right now.

Thanks CJ, I'm thinking of using the Blue Marine or the Centech aux blocks. The blue marine is 4.5inx2in and I don't know how thick but I'd think not more than 2.5in.

the Centech is about 3.0” x 2.4” x 1.25”

Thanks

I'd go w/ the Centech. I've not seen one are tried to fit one, but from those dimensions it would fit better than the Marine.

Did a little riding down at Black Hawk Farms w/ some buddies. This bike is fun no matter where you ride it.

17"s on an ADV

Got out of the shop for a ride yesterday on the new setup. I'm very happy with how these turned out. I know many have said that they don't like how the 17" handle or look, but for me it's great. No worries, the setup is stable on the freeway and handle the twisties very well. I now have a set of true tubeless road tires that I can swap on in about 30-45 mins. Great for commuting when I get back from the trails or when I hit the track.

I'm running the Shinko Podium F006 and R006 tires. $170 for the set. I started the morning w/ 0 miles on them on cool and wet roads. Perfect for scrubbing in new tires. No issues, they stuck well and handle very nice, Running PSI is about 36 front and rear. At this price I can have alot of fun w/ the throttle hand and not feel to bad. Sure makes for an odd looking touring bike, but function over fashion...correct.

47,500 miles on the bike.

FMF issue at 47,000 miles

Had a little issue w/ the FMF pipes I've got on the 950. I'm running a 2-1 collector and I guess the added pressure pumped through these has taken it's toll.

This one has about 35,000 miles on it, never been rebuilt, and half of those miles have been run w/ the 2-1. I swapped on the other one and I'll see if that gets me to 75,000.

Center baffle rattles, I guess high RPMS on the track for extended time added to this.

Trying to push it's way out the end.

I still want a Spark Arrested silencer that is USF approved. I figure these are $300 each or less on sale. Anyone have any input on how other silencers in this price range are holding up in the 2-1 setup? I'd like something a little more free flowing, yet still not too loud.

Hey Craig, how much time/miles on the tanks now, and how are they holding up?
