i heard they make it illegal to have your plate like that in MN now.

with that said, anybody who gives a ticket to someone riding such a sweet machine needs to get bent.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

Re-Chromed Parts

Hey Minnesota Driver, where did you get your parts re-chromed? She looks smoking good. Great job!

Wow! What an accomplishment!

It tickles me to know that I contributed (even in a very small way) to such a gorgeous bike!

Thanks!
I didn't have anything rechromed. There isn't much chrome on the bike, really. The rims and shocks cleaned up well, just some minor pitting. I replaced one of the tank panels with a NOS one off ebay. Handlebars and mufflers are new items. The other shiny parts are just aluminum that I polished.

I had the same experience on my Cb160 (the one that started this thread.) Honda apparently used some very good plating processes. Mine looked terrible in the beginning, and every piece of chrome cleaned up beautifully. Just a bit of fine steel wool, some chrome polish, and a bit of elbow grease, and this is what you get in the end:

So who's gonna be next to finish their bike? Bonebag? GIJoeBob? adrenaline?

Let's go guys! We're getting a taste for progress here!

Aluminum Polishing Techniques

Can you all give some advice on polishing. I started to clean up on mine but it needs more work. What can you all suggest start to finish to get the look I am seeing above?

MAN, Nice work guys...these little CB's look awesome! Quick question though, on the black/silver one, who makes that skid plate? I've never seen one on a CB160...Is it off a CL160, or an aftermarket item? I have a blue/silver '65 CB160 in boxes that I've been meaning to restore for the past 16 years! This is a motivating thread for sure!

Ride well,
Sunman

I bought it from a guy on ebay who was parting a CL160. I'd guess it is aftermarket, though. The sticker on the front is not legible. It looks like it was three letters: A___C (AMC, ABC?)

Post up some pics of your bike, Sunman, even if it's in boxes. Just showing us your starting point can be motivating.

I bought a 6" cloth wheel for my bench grinder and a tube each of gray and white buffing compound. For the little nooks and crannies i use my dremel with felt wheel. I also tried a 3" wheel on my a cordless drill but it didn't seem to get the same results (not enough rpm, I think).

It was all an experiment for me. Now i'm polishing everything I can find in the garage!

Right on Cowboy, thanks! Yeah, gimme a day or two to round up some pix. I've painted the frame and over the years have collected a bunch of NOS items, new tank, seat(NOS seat is so cool), pipes, carbs, wire harness, front fender and speedo. I have two bikes and one will be as Mr. Honda intended and one will my version.

Ride well,
Sunman
