So far I absolutely love the bike. The motor sounds fantastic for an I-4, even with the stock exhaust. Power is just staggering. For normal riding, 4 of the gears are superfluous; it just pulls from anywhere. The handling at parking-lot speeds seems strange at first - it's almost as if your front tire is flat. Get used to it, though, and turning radius is very tight for a bike of this length, and handling is fantastic. The bike is freight-train stable in turns (and in crosswinds). I couldn't be happier with it so far, but the lack of riding weather is killing me. The upcoming K13S and the economic downturn have combined for some amazing deals on them. I wouldn't be surprised to see the K13 in the $17-$20K range. They are beautiful, with a few changes, but largely the same bike. These K12's can be bought new around $11k before tax. I can't imagine a bike made that suits my needs/wants more perfectly. It would have been worth it to me at $16k. At $11k, it's not even a decision....if you're in the market, do it, and don't look back. You'll love it.
Unleaded,

well I have a deposit on the white aluminum - not sure where you can get an $11,000 deal but there are plenty of people trying to sell used ones with a year or two gone from their warranty for far more than that. It's BMW end of the year pricing, it's bitten me twice (slow learner )
I like the add ons - screen and the GPS mount. I like the idea of sliders, I have them on the Gixxer and they've saved me some $ (0 mph tip overs), but cutting the panels that seems a bit much (I reserve the right to change my mind). I wish you all the best and hope that the K12S can take the place of the Gixxer - if not the insurance is gonna kill me.

Congrats - you're gonna love it.

Be sure to get several quotes on the insurance. I got full coverage (liability/collision/comp), and the quotes ranged from $500/year to way more than double that....

As far as the sliders go....the day I brought it home, I couldn't imagine ever drilling holes in the fairing. A few days later, after thinking about it tipping over in the driveway, I got over it.

Here is mine.. and 03 that I got the first part of October. I love it..have put 5000 miles on it in those 10 weeks. So far I haven't found a day too cold to ride (25 starting out). It seems to run better now at 12,500 miles than when I picked it up.

One of my favorite bikes in the barn here over the years. This '05 has delivered nothing but grins. No issues or complaints. A keeper.

Took a video ride towards the spot below recently - streaming video

...and one of the prettiest colors, IMO. Wish they still would've sold them in that color in '08.

Great looking K Bike and thanks for the video - I needed that. That Canyon looks like a "K Bike Kinda Kanyon".

I was out riding last Sunday and mine turned over 90,000 on the ODO. Still runs like a champ. One of these days I've got to change the oil & filter.

My K bike....

She is a 1990 with only 9,000 miles. Stock except for the heat baffle kit to cool it off during the summer months.

2- K's

Got the first one in 02 from Big Twin in Boise. Great dealership!

Second one i got in 06 from Ventura BMW. Also a good dealership.

The brother has been a bad influence on my wallet. Got me out touring and seeing the western states, tho.

The 02 has about 8600 miles on it, the 06 has over 20,000. Have some good GPS tracks from Utah in May :) The recorded dots on the track got really far apart on that straight stretch up to I70. Have had it to about 150 indicated. It is so quick, its scary!

Guess the mileage on the K12S will tell you that it is a great long distance tourer.
