Eek K abuse

Bought a 1990 K100 about 4 weeks ago. Thought I better change the oil and check it out a bit. Gearbox oil looked like it was froth, never seen oil like that before. I swear the Diff only had 50 ml of oil. Glad I did not put it off any longer or it would have died for sure. Fork oil looked like old engine oil.
Cheers Bob

The transmission is vented. If the bike has been sitting for a while in a wet environment then water will collect in the transmission gear oil. I just revived a 1985 that had been sitting under a cover for 3 years and it had the same thing. If the gear oil is low in the final drive, the input shaft seal for the final drive might be leaking. I recommend pulling the final dirve off and having a look. Lube the splines with Honda Moly 60 while you have it off.

Went for a 180 kilometre round trip today, no problems, I am sure the cornering & ride is improved with the new fork oil. Will try the photo thing tomorrow afternoon. Will be keeping a close watch for any oil leaks. I am sure there will be one.
Cheers Bob

My 1998 K12RS ...

Hi!

I hope it's ok to post this here.

There's a long story to go with this photo. Check it out here, with it getting really interesting here.

Tell me your thoughts. Were we just a bit too crazy for our own good?

Enjoy,

Liz

Great read and photos.

MsLiz, isn't that just a photo of that one day of bad skiing that passes for Summer in your neck of the woods?

Oh my gosh yes! That picture is in July, just after the fourth when we all ski down the mountain holding up flares, as part of the pre-fireworks show!

Glad you enjoyed the story.

Just picked one of these up in NM a couple days ago.

1988 K75, no idea what else about it (was a purchase of necessity, not one of choice). I'll be reading through this and pinging you guys for knowledge.
