From a recent "day" ride where I met the inmate on the wedge K.

Wanna see dirty? This is my K75RT after returning from Alaska. The headlight got smashed by some flying gravel on the Cassiar Highway so I stopped washing it.

I "fixed" the headlight with some duct tape that I had with me:

When I came across the border at Sumas, WA the border dude was so amazed by my collection of bug guts that he forgot to ask me my citizenship or check my ID:

Looks good! Yep fixed them headlights like that too, Newfoundland and Alaska! Was that the Cassiar before or after they paved most of it?

Hyder But I don't drink Everclear anymore.

Road-Weary filthy bikes....certainly seems to help with cops or border guards,in my experience.

The Cassiar was "sorta" paved when I rode down it. Lots of it was 3/4 miles of pavement and then 200 yards of gravel alternating from one to the other. Speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down.... for what seemed like forever. Most of the guys in trucks up there were cool to motorcycles and would slow down but there's always a few that whiz by you going the other way at 60 mph and give you a nice gravel shower. That's how my headlight got taken out.

My K100RS

Here is my 'sold' K100RS, 1991. I loved this thing but had a hard time with the "heat" effect. I have my eye on a 1998 R1100GS.

I'll tell you what I know......some of the very early 98's had defective engines. Kaboom the crankshaft at No1 piston. Just got a message yesterday from an eastern buddy, his just self destructed at 71,000 milles locking the rear wheel. He is fine, we are waiting for the pics......! Same happened to someone I know on this coast.

No.....BMW never put out a service bulletin on that.

As for resolving the "issues".....do you mean from BMW? We are getting pretty darn good at doing it ourselves.
