Obligatory end of the riding season photos
My K rewarded me for a new coat of Mystic Red with a great year. Just finished the 2012 riding season with 123K miles. Now it's into the garage this winter to be stripped down and prepped for 2013, Boston to Thunder Bay in spring and maybe a cross country ride across route 66. Here it is in Vermont in April, the Dragon, on the way up the BRP in June, and loaded for a 2 week two-up camping trip in August. Still running strong towards 200K miles.

Deadhorse on a '92 K100RS
Just discovered this thread. Thought I'd throw in my $0.02.
In 2010, I took my '92 brick, which I've owned since new, from DC to Deadhorse. I met so many GS Adventure riders on the way up that said, 'You can't make it! You're going to die!". I confess, I did enjoy the double takes I got on the Dalton. Friends bust my chops for still riding the old "oil burner". One particularly funny assessment from a Ninja rider. I still love that bike and prefer it over all others, all these years later. ![]() Telluride, up the jeep trail to the falls. ![]() Arctic Circle ![]() And yet another GS rider goes "WTF??" ![]() Atigen Pass ![]() Deadhorse, I wonder how many K100RS's have visited this place? The whole trip, in gory detail, here: http://miles-by-motorcycle.com/blog.html?search_cat=92

K100RS Deal's Gap
Another photo. It's amazing to me how much a Racetech rebuilt front end and a properly set up Ohlins rear will do for one of these bikes. The michelin PR3's aren't bad either.
![]() We sat around the firepit one evening and a super-motard rider, who I had passed on the Dragon earlier that day, sat down. "We used to make fun of you old guys on your big slow BMW's. I tell you what, not any more."

After 20 years or so, I've just acquired a replacement for my sorely missed red & yellow K1:
![]() 20K miles. It was a UK bike originally, then exported to Ireland where it was "converted" to the Touring spec with the back-end chopped about to take Motocases before being converted back again and treated to new panels. The then owner did 90 miles on it between 2003 and this year. A mate bought it (sight unseen) and had it brought back to the UK then decided that it was the wrong bike for his needs and offered it to me. I've stripped it from the tail to the gearbox and addressed a few issues (much cleaning, painting and polishing) ![]() BMW(GB) are honouring a few outstanding recalls ( ) and once done, I'll strip the front end to continue the clean-up and fettle.![]()

I have a sudden interest in the K1200LT. I was wondering if someone would mind talking about the bike....I know it is a pig, but pros and cons of the bike. Things to look for? Should mileage concern me at all. What years are better than others? What are the best and worst years? I would like to find one that I could throw my leg over and see what it feels like, but having a hard time finding one close.

I have had my bike for 18 months and about 9,000 miles and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I do prefer the 2001 over the 2002. The 02 model has sevo assisted ABS brakes that I do not care for. Try it, you'll like it.

In talking with my mechanic he says the reverse gear is a nice feature unless something goes wrong then it becomes very problematic to resolve. (2004+ I think). The same with the electric center stand (2005+). From my experience with the servo brakes on the 03 RS, mine are fine and I like them. It took a moment, but a quick one, to get used to them but now they are just part of the character of the bike. NCS
