My 2001 K1200LT, aka, "Barney". Barney takes me to work everyday, on long journeys, and even on track days. We've been to Road Atlanta, and Carolina Motorosports Park (three times). She's stock except for Ohlins suspension and an MP3 player. Can't tell you how much fun it is to pass a lot of much faster bikes on this big old girl. Come see us @ the US Desmo track day in October.

I just bought a 2007 K1200GT. What are you guys using for an aftermarket windshield? I want something a little taller or something that has a slight lip on the top of it.What do you guys suggest?

I am 6 4" and running the BMW tall shield. It is ok. I have added Heli Bar Risers and am getting a custom seat built in 2 weeks. Once I get myself settled on the bike ergonomically I will see what I need in the way of a windshield.

I am setting up my bike with a V-1, CB Radio and my 376 C. It will be a pretty plain (no fuel cell) LD mount. I bought a set of aux light mounts but haven't decided on driving lights yet. I have the BMW Xenon Low beam and have heard it and the 2 high beams are pretty good.

Here's a hint. the restraining straps for the side cases come off when you pack the bags sometimes. When you then open the left side case and the bike is on the side stand the lid top swings around(no strap is holding it) and the lid hits the pavement leaving a nice gouge. The trick is to reverse the strap at the top and put it in the hard to fit way. I learned this the hard way

It seems like a very nice MC so far

Was my partner's first touring ride on her R65.

I had been thinking I would sell the K, but now I am not so sure. Made riding with gear for two people a total breeze.

I got my first K back in Feb rode it for a month then shipped out... Got home in July and put 3k miles on it GREAT BIKE!!!!

It took a while to figure out what I wanted out of a long distance machine. Most of the year actually. I brought her home this weekend.

I like. 12 year old machine is in excellent shape with under 33k miles on the clock.

One question....do you adjust your windscreen on the fly or only when stopped?

I like my K12RS........................

It only has the two-position manual adjustment on the screen but I sometimes reach out and pull it up in a rainstorm.........

Owning '94 K75RT "The Flying Brick" for about a month. Bought it while it has 45500 KM on the clock (about 28440 miles). Very smooth maschine and I love the turbine-like sound when it reved-up, but I hate it when it is idle. Very comfortable bike with excellent OEM suspensions (in my opinion the its OEM suspensions are far better than the '00 Yamaha XJ600N and '08 Honda CBF600). Weighing about 260 kg, it is as simple to handle as (or even lighter) 200 kg Yamaha due to its lower gravity center.

You can certainly adjust the windshield on the fly but it puts a huge strain on the windscreen motor and the battery too.

I usually "help" the screen with my hand when adjusting it going >50mph.

Be wary of the adjustable windshield on the 93-97 model LTs, they are one of the few Achilles heels of the bike, imo.
