During break in (keeping the RPM's under 5K), my best mpg was 73 over a full tank. On a trip last June, I recorded 67 mpg on a section including Skyline Drive and Route 250 through VA / WV. On the way home, I was lucky to get 52 MPG on a 70 - 80 mph interstate run up through the mountains on I-79. Usually average around 58 - 60 around home with a heavy right wrist.

On tarmac, 70 to 75 MPG. I once got fully 140.5 miles indicated on the 1.9 gallong tank, before flaming out

Speed is a big factor
Since wind resistance is a geometric progression, your speed could have a lot to do with your fuel economy.
On a trip to Alaska, if we knew that there was a gas station 100 miles away, we would run faster then if it was 200 miles away. At 55 MPH, the Dakar got around 65+, while at 65-70MPH, it would only get 55 mpg. |

My 01 BMW 1150GS gets around 45 mpg average. A lighter wrist would certainly give me better mileage, but is it not about having fun while we ride? Loaded down to Alaska and back I averaged around 40 mpg.

2006 R1200gs, loaded but not running it too hard I get 48-51. If I really ride it hard I get about 44-46. Averaged 51.2 on a 1000 mile day last July.

45-50 mpg... ususally 50. Flogging it in the sand or running highway at 80-100 ... 45. But just added a 6.6 gal Acerbis, a cargo rack and box to do Mexico adding about 65 lbs... haven't checked the mileage yet. |
