question on the maps: what are the heavy straight black lines that show up? Some sort of grid lines? Digital/conversion artifacts? really long straight roads?

I'm currently in the process of uploading a Mac version. It should be done at about 9:30PM MST (GMT -7).

The download URL (when its finished) will be http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/TopoMaps122.tgz .

In what area? Can you give me a Lat/Lon reference?

There are some road elements in areas I processed earlier on that are mis defined. (newer areas don't have this problem).

hey ibycus, thanks for taking care of us Mac users. I'd already done the PC to Mac dance, but I'm downloading the new set again to see if the odd black lines go away.

Question: would it help your server out if we BT'd this file? Or do you run into licensing issues?

Thanks!

Bit Torrent away, also feel free to burn and give away DVDs, just can't sell them.
I've been meaning to set up some kind of torrent myself, but I think I'm going to move towards a different kind of installer instead, just have to get around to coding it. (My plan is to institute an 'updater' so that I can release small 'maintenance' releases without requiring the total redownload of the whole dataset).

Looking at the file sizes, there must be more new data in this version than I'd thought. I'm going to have to release a new PC version soon (must update those maritime files first though, I've been promissing that for a while...).

I should mention, I just got enough donations to buy the version of cgpsmapper needed to compile these on my own computer (the cgpsmapper author gives a special deal to people who aren't selling their maps), which will make updates to existing tiles *much* easier. (its a real pain when I have to go through mapcenter).

Can you get me a lat/lon reference of one of these black lines?

Dale

Is this one of them N49 39.190 W116 19.693. If so, this is what I was talking about with the artifacts from older releases. I have a new version of 082, 083, 084 ready to be compiled, this will be one of my first jobs when I get my install key for cgpsmapper.

I downloaded the Windoze version and notice scattered blank areas with no data. Is this a file glitch or are there in fact holes in the map coverage for some reason?

If the latter, can we expect a new improved file any time soon with full coverage?

If it's just on my machine, I guess I'll have to download and try again ;(

Thanks for all the effort.

There are several map sheets missing in a variety of areas 6 or 7 in the southern half of BC. Fortunately I can still "fill in the blanks" with Topo Canada.

The reason for the missing tiles is generally due to compile time restrictions on mapcenter. If a map take too long to compile, mapcenter skips it and moves on to the next.

A reasonable solution, as some maps can take litterally days to compile. (couple of weeks ago I started a couple compiling in Quebec. They ran continuously for 6 days, then we had a power outage, and I lost all the progress).

If there are any areas of particular interest that are missing, let me know, and I'll see about getting them in to the next version (if not too long a compile time, it shouldn't be a problem). Thanks to the donations I've received, I've managed to afford a license of cgpsmapper to run on my local computer (the free version has some limitations which I really didn't want to live with).

Otherwise I periodically go through all the existing tiles, and look for holes to fill in.

Thanks for the work, ibycus - question for you: Just bought the Triton 500, which uses VantagePoint software. VP doesn't recognize *.img files. Do you know of a way to convert your files to *.imi or other VP recognizable file??
