Here's the Steve McQueen special edition.

My mate took that new to him WR450 to the shop - needs a new fricking bottom end - he's chasing up the barstard that sold it to him in Wellywood.
That scrambler was so cool - he sold it as soon as we got back and I was very tempted but while it was a great all road bike it wasnt as all round usefull as the klr so....

Sorry to hear about your mates WR - buying any ageing hipo trail bike is a high risk crap shoot.

There's a 4th one there too that says something about pressure from the wife, but I try to ignore that one...
none of us can ignore the 4th item - no matter how much we delude ourselves....

You wouldnt have liked todays ride much as it involved all of the nasty words you mentioned. Which probably partially explains why I went over the bars and then had the now upside down bike land on me. One of my poor pinkies looked like a pretzel afterwards - I managed to un-dislocate it after I took a concrete pill and now it looks like a balloon. Aside from that it was a really great day.

15 th April Mungatooks

Andy Mac emailed me some photos from yesterdays ride so....

Andrew (Javahead) having second thoughts about the company he's keeping....

Glen getting a bit sideways coming down the 24hr

Andrew again - coming down the 24hr after we admitted defeat (too slippery)

Me proudly showing my re-aligned finger

One of the advantages of having a sore hand - having other people pick up my bike - thanks Andrew

Was a great day despite the odd hickup

Anzac Day

Went for a ride with Andy Mac, Javahead and Glen up in the Mungatooks.

We went down the Lost Valley (Martins Flat) up the Rock Garden, had lunch, down the Rock Garden, fooled around on the Devils Staircase, back up the Lost Valley then down the 10hr track (nasty) and down the 24hr track and into one of the Three Sister MTB tracks then did a bit of single track by the quad center.

33km took 6hrs+ (our average speed is improving)
was great fun and totally shattering......

I've got a jar at home to put my "Dirty weekend with MarkS" money in.

As I've got to allow for petrol, ferry trips and possible hospital visits, it's slow going...

Hmmm...
Do Rekluse do anything for the TT350?

I don't have to worry about the ferry, but I do need a real dirt bike. I've seen that hill, and I don't think a DR650 would make it.

That, and a lack of 17" trials tyres...

Do Rekluse do anything for the TT350?
the heavy clutched wr would be a pig in tight stuff without mr rekluses assistance

I actually think this is one of the safest type of riding that there is.
Yes you will regulary fall off and bruise/tweak and maybe break things but I there are no high speeds and no cars, barriers, lamp posts etc etc.

I cant think of a safer way to get my adrenaline fix

so when are you Nelson guys going to get off of your lazy buttocks and come up this way????

Sunday 6th May 24hr,Roller Coaster,Waynes Track

No one wanted to ride with us on Sunday (must need new deodorant) so Glen and I decided to have a go at a couple of lumpier tracks.

We first tried going up the Roller Coaster and failed so we headed up the 24hr and went around via Titi Rd to the top of the Roller Coaster and rode back down to where we got stuck. Woohoo - what a track - we will definitley be having another go at getting all the way up from the bottom.

That lot only took 4 hrs and we had a bit of energey left so we had another run up Waynes Track - this track is truly brutal - I fell off 3-4 times and had to stop at least half a dozen times to get my breathing under control but for some very bizzare reason had an absolute blast. So satisfying being able to get to the top of a track that we struggled to ride down when we were first shown it several years ago.

When we got to the top about 4pm Glen was keen to do more but I was starting to make mistakes due to tiredness so we called it a day.

I think I may have over abused my poor clutch as it was slipping more than it should so I'll open it up this weekend and have a look.

It was an awesome day - the weather was cool and clear and very still - I love sitting in the bush having a breather listening to all the tui's and wood pidgeons and getting checked out by wax eyes etc

I'll have to come up in winter. My little air-cooled bike wouldn't stand a chance in summer

It is reputed to be slippery as all hell in there during the winter.

Mark, can't see from your video what might have caused the clutch issue...

So you're going slower when you fall off?

I'm cool with that.

Well last weekend I pulled the plates out and they were at or just above the minimum serviceable spec so I bunged them back in and tightened up the engagement spread (by adding some ball bearings).
Seemed to be quite a bit better this weekend although I'll order some new plates soonish.

Once again no one would ride with us this weekend so Glen and I headed off bright and early on Sunday for a tootle down the Lost Valley to the bottom of the Devils Staircase. We rode up and down the Rock Garden - which is really chopped up after the recent rains and quite hard work and then rode up the Devils Staircase. Its in full winter wet mode and we struggled - Glen ended up with his 300 completely upside down on the first big rocky step - he scared the crap out of me but apart from a tweaked neck was fine. I got stuck on a ledge about halfway up the staircase and in the end we just dragged my bike on its side till I could lift it upright without it sliding back down.

Really felt a great sense of accomplishment getting to the top.

We then went down a series of tracks that exit on Whakatiki Rd and headed up the Firewood Track. About halfway through I reached my use-by date as I was stuck halfway up a clay climb whose clay surface was like pale peanut butter. We turned around and headed back to the car. By the time we cleaned the worst of the mud off in the stream and loaded up the bikes it was dark

Was another awesome day with stunning weather but I could barely get out of my chair after dinner and was asleep by 8.30.

roll on next weekend
