my plated xr400 will go up for sale very soon. i've done the whole strip-down-rebuild thing to it,(except the motor, i have never touched it, it runs great) put new plastic on it, now i just have to get the fork seals and oil replaced.

Bigtodd wants a dirtbike

WTF...johngil selling his bike? No way. We haven't gotten to ride enough. Unless you're replacing it.

Buy it Todd. Or Ersin. Either way. But the budget will be twice what Todd's been looking at.

A KTM 525EXC is a different bike from a TE630. You really need to ride some of these and try them out. For desert and offroad with a truck the KTM is king. For dualsport and some adv riding the TE rules.

Yeah, we'll swap the GS and the TE for a ride, okay? I guess I gotta test ride a 990 too.
That Tenere was calling my name again today.

The Husky is great for what we did in GC, but it doesn't work for 2-up on the road. My Versys is great for me over the road, and it will haul us both for day trips, but not with any gear for overnighting.

I test rode the Super Tenere. Sat on a GS, Multistrada, and 990. I need to ride them all I guess. Of all the assorted bikes out there these are on my shortlist.

The S10 was a bit mild. It is so sorted it is almost boring. From what I understand they can be tweaked a bit to really come alive. Their shaft drive is said to be outstanding. As heavy as it is it feels very light and handles really well.

The GS is always said to be the class leader. It doesn't really do anything the best, it's not the worst at anything either, but consistent across the board and extremely comfortable, especially for two, making it the perennial favorite.

The 990 is the best offroad. But typical finicky euro bike with all it's quirks. Not the ideal 2-up mount.

The 'strada is the sexiest of all and clearly the fastest on road. 150 horsepower on tap - WOW! That would be a ticket machine for me. And talk about finicky and quirky, and expensive, plus forget about one off pavement. Wifey really liked the new titanium matt finish 1200S Touring. You might fit a couple'a shirts and a pair of socks in a pannier.

I could probably be talked into a 990 or a Tenere, but right now a GS looks like the best way to go for us, especially for a low-mile used. Currently in the hunt.

I will start with I have R1200GS 05 for sale if you wont to ride it come over to my shop and i think is a good price
Now we all know there is no prefect bike and you should ask your self what bike your going to keep and where you will ride more road or dirt and then one up or two up
I think what I will like to do is keep GS for the rode with easy dirt and 990 for the long dirt and easy road
530 for a lots of short dirt
I owned and road all kind of bikes I aslo test the yamaha st i was not impressed
good luck

Chris, You're welcome to take my 990R for a extended spin with your choice of two up friendly seats. Renazco, Bill Mayer dual saddle or a Russel day long built for two.

Where does the KTM 950 SE fit into the picture? I have been toying with the idea of doing longer miles, and camping for a few days at a time. At some point, I would like to do the same thing... but with my chick on the back.

I really want a 690, but I don't think that is a viable option for 2-up riding for a couple days at a time. Is the 690 capable of that type of riding?

Something about the 990 doesn't do it for me, but I dig the 950 SE. Problem with that is, I'm not sure if I could lift the fuggin' thing if I dropped it

the 690 is great for solo riding and maybe some short 2up stuff if the gal is small.. I do it

the se is the best large off road bike... it's simple and its 450lbs
all the rest are street bikes that can be riden on a smooth dirt roads... skills are a big part of that and you will drop it
and parts will break... how much you have to spend keeping it working is a big part of off roading a street bike

3 bikes are needed
450
650
950
they will all do dirt and the se 950 will do 2up
i'm only missing the se
