This is awesome guys! It opens up another way of getting a custom advbike. With the limited offering in the USA, doing this kind of mods bring more spice to the sport.

Can you tell me the seat height? Thats one of the drawback from the mod I did on my Transalp. It's so fricking tall!!!

But there is something about the twins...you have the low frequency deep sound of a thumper and the high rev of a 4 inline (well, almost!) How about top speed? How does it handles at 60, 70 mph.

FYI if folks are looking for 41mm forks, the stockers from a current generation (1996 up I think) XR250R would be a good option (probably better than the KLR units - cartridge damping and less underhand).

Enjoying keeping up with what you guys are doing. The wife has an 06, it really suits her well, and she loves it. Plenty of power, light weight, f.i., low seat height, and good looks. I like it too, but my legs are a little cramped on it.

Only one thing i can see that I would add. Imop, your mutants could definately use a longer front fender (rear portion) to keep most of the dirt, sand, and rocks off of the radiator and fan. We have a long gravel drive and even though i keep or bikes pretty clean, i didn't notice the buildup of sand and some small rocks in the fan. It stopped the blades from turning, blew the fuse, and caused the f.i. light to come on. Luckily, she was close to home when it happened and it didn't over heat.

Keep up the good work. Wish i was as resourceful as ya'll are so i could use that sweet twin to build a mutant ninja/klr enduro.

back from my 13,500 mile ride, including 3,000 miles of gravel, to upper canuckistan and alaska. what a ride! what a bike!

it's adventure riding right? boy, the bike sure looks pretty in that photo. it came home without the left side case, left gas can rack, and front lights except the right side piaa. all courtesy of a grain truck in western montana that dragged it down the road under the hopper body. i had to watch 6L of gas drain under the bike. the bike was hot and the ignition was on-i couldn't shut it off because the mounts were bent down on top of the key and then....

well, that's a start anyway.

...with a final lurch of the trailer, the hopper gate mechanism broke, pierced the rear tire and bent the rim from the inside out. the kid driving the truck climbed down, eyes very very big-at least he was chewing and not smoking. he must have thought he was looking at a 400# space alien that just dropped in to say hello. i was covered with so much montana dust that i couldn't see the color of my riding gear. i smiled and said "thanks for stopping" and he just nodded. he didn't get it-in fact he hadn't stopped immediately and that was the reason the bike was under the truck. the kid got out a cell phone and within minutes a rancher rolled up, then another, and another...

so there's a peek at a 50 foot section of the 13,500 miles.
