I always found mine to be sensitive to tire pressure, suspension setup and tire wear. When tires neared the end of their life, getting it to change directions required me to grab that bike by the scruff of its neck and stuff it into the corner.

Jeez, that thing was fun. I still miss it.

This must be the "show off your R1100S thread!

Bought mine brand new at Foothill's BMW in January 2000. Had it until June 2006 when I went the evil route of the R1200S...

Both are stellar bikes. But the R1100S is becoming a terrific bargain, it has the looks and the younger R1200S sister has the brains.

I think if I were to succumb to the dark side and opt for an R1200, it would be the "R". Still very happy with my R11S. Older pic, the white striping lasted a couple of years but now OBSSSN is back in black.

Moybin,

My problem with the "R" is that it does nothing for me. I need a bike that makes me think "wow!"

No fight there. I like the naked bike look better than the R12S look. But that's taste. That's why phones aren't all black anymore. I think your candy cane is the best looking R12S, but again, that's taste.

Same road two different bikes.

The S

The "paint shaker"

Both are way fun but, I got the paintshaker to commute and play in hills with to slow the milage growth on the S.

Kbasa is correct. The Ohlins are a transforming thing.

I found the 1100S to be a great all around machine from track days to long distance rides. Was able to move the clip ons to the top of the triple clamp for really long rides with minimal effort and then back again for more spirited riding.

Here's a few pics of my 1100S at Motorsport Ranch south of Ft. Worth last summer

Here's a pic from a trip to Mena AR and the temp is 32!

I found my S to be a handful in real tight stuff but pure joy in the sweepers. I dare say, it is an itch I could scratch again....

5 Years and 9 Days...

... after asking my initial question about R1100S's, I finally bought one!

Pictures tomorrow...

I found a silver 2002 standard model (no ABS, no heated grips, etc) with a TON of upgrades and extras, fresh maintenance, fluids, and rubber, and only 22,000 miles for a ridiculously low price!
