I missed that "before it got too hot" by about 30 minutes. By the time I got home I was baked. Really hot.
There is some serious heat out there, even on a street bike.

First part of ride was very nice however. Cool even.

The V ran much better with the different map from Powercommander...all systems now go...

I'm out the next three weekends. I just reconfigured the bike for high attitude. MItrnsplnt, Rotorhead, Riggy and I are all heading to Colorado next weekend for a week of riding in the Colorado Rockies. We'll be back in town around Aug 20 but may not be in any condition to ride for a few days/weeks. Looking forward to a change of scenery from flat sand to mountains and rocks.

I'll let you guys know as soon as we get a date nailed down.

Soup? That reminds me of a story. Jeff Dahmer is having a dinner party. One of the guests says, "Jeff, I don't really like your friends". Jeff says, "Well then, just have the soup."

A sobering reminder that not only do you have to be cautious (read : slower) on the trails of moving obstacles but that things can jump out in the middle of a paved road ! Can't believe the guy didn't stop though....

Wild vid thanks for posting...

I have been riding out there (Eglin and BW) for over 5 years and it is rare that we DONT see deer. Had a close friend badly hurt when he missed the first one but the second one hit him.

The V Strom I am riding was totaled when the previous owner hit a deer at about 40ish one night. He rebuilt it in all yellow...

So what do you do... sit at home on the couch and worry about hittting deer or fallen logs....

I choose to ride!

I hope those who have ridden with me recognize you can be safe and still have a good time...

Awesome!

That fooker fared better than I did when I hit a calf that ran out of the bushes in front of me about 12 years ago.

Yeah, life is an inherently risky business - in the end nobody gets out alive anyway so it behooves us to take at least some calculated risks as the couch DOES gets boring after a while.
I should rephrase my last post - recommending that we all including myself go slow is like a bunch of guys deciding to play some tackle football in the backyard and saying it's going to be "low key" and we will just "take it easy" and not hit hard and get carried away - we know how long that lasts.
I will rephrase going slower with recommending trying to be Hyper-Vigilant around blind corners or when riding trails you have not been on for a while which may have changed/have fresh trash piles/feces stained matresses on them....

Maybe, just maybe I'll be joining y'all on an adventure some day soon

Picked this up 2 weeks ago. Haven't had time to even change to oil and clean the air filter but it had less than 2k on the clock and will be able to serve double duty as my motard commuter and weekend adventure bike.

She is sprung for a 220+ rider and as I said, I got to change the oil, check the valves, put in the stock springs, pull off some of the junk, put in a fresh air filter and eventually get a set of new rubber. What is the opinion of the collective on tire choice for Eglin sand and BW Forest riding, DOT or pure off road. I can easily see riding on Sunday and not getting her back into motard trim before heading off to work on Monday.

I think most of us use the full dirt knobs because we haul our bikes to riding area and dont do much pavement. Michlin S12XC is what I am running (not your normal S12). Others like Maxxis Desert XC. The list goes on.... Pure dirt dont do well or last long on pavement.

If you think you will run some tarmac you might want to stick with DOT approved which IMHO means the Metzler 6 day. Very good tire in dirt and has some staying power on pavement.Hope to get to ride with you soon.

This is just a BAD time of year to ride... we are getting some rain, which helps but its still very HOT our there right now. MadMax 400 has the right idea... wait for cooler weather....

I just cant wait that long to ride....
