TET Day 4 = no 4th Gear!

Barney and I awoke to a frost warning in Franklin this morning and decided to hit the road/trail at 9. Everything was awesome until we made it down to Wolf Pen Gap when my bike lost 4th gear!

We decided to try continuing on since I could still use 1st through 3rd as well as 5th and 6th. When we got to Ellijay I bought some oil so I could do another change ( just changed it in Blairsville yesterday).

When I was draining the tranny I could see a chunk of metal in bottom end...shit!

Crazy!

We still managed to ride 200 miles today. Tonight were in Reseca and will be back at my truck in Cheaha tomorrow.

All in all, we've had an awesome trip with some of the finest off road riding anywhere!

I plan to make my way to Jackson Guard to get my FY13 permit Saturday AM. I was going to re-spring the front and set the sag Saturday afternoon. I have 2 completely shot MT21's on a bigger than I'm used to D/S bike. I haven't ridden dirt for longer than I can remember and wouldn't want to hold anyone up. Oh yea, and since I don't have a house or garage anymore, I have to go digging through my storage unit to find some dated dirt gear. Maybe I'll just go for a slow easy ride on the western side of the range on my own.

How long is the big loop? I have no idea what kind of mileage I will get out of this thing off road.

Tim,
The Big Loop is over 100 miles and includes gas/lunch in Villa Tasso on HW20. I wont ride it all but some of the stuff down south is new to me so I need to refine tracks.

Check you PM for additional info...

Ok let say about 9AM since the heat is not a factor. Slow burn with some GPS fiddiling.... Plan on 4 hours if we want to go the whole ride. Gas is about 50 miles out....

Bring a hat as we will stop at the hat tree and you can add you "hat". The Turkey from last year is still up there....

Who is in?

Sorry I am not at Barbers with the rest of you hooligans.... have fun up there. Many Pics please...

TET Day 5

Brett and I left Reseca, GA this morning and rode about 150 miles back to the truck in rain. It was beautiful!

What a trip! We had a great time, rode great trails and saw every kind of weather.

Now I have to get my 530 bottom end rebuilt.

BTW, amazing how the bike lasted all the way from Wolf Pen Gap to Cheaha with no 4th gear!

Michelin Man with rain suit on over my oversized enduro jacket and pants...

Barney loving the rain

Here's a sign I couldn't resist

Yea dirty, we road together early in'11 with inept, bz, Dallas, oc and others. I was riding the 625SMC with 17" street wheels. Now I have the new to me SXC, you stopped me a couple of months ago in South Crestview and asked me about riding the same bike. Just haven't had any dirt time on it yet.
