streak, that bike had fly and ride written all over it

All of those P-cola folks are pretty much top shelf, or something like that.

Then, not only did he pick the bike up from the seller after I wired the money, he stored it in his garage for 3-4 weeks until I could get my ass up to P-cola!

AND ON TOP OF THAT, he graciously invited me into his home for his Christmas Party, and fed and boozed me up!

Jeff, I don't have the words to thank you enough for your kindness and generosity! You are one of a kind, my friend, and SEMPER FI!

Here's the bike finally home in my neck of the woods after 7.5 hours drive each way.

Do you mind if I ask where you found this one listed? I have been looking for one forever; looking in craigslist, cycletrader and the like. Lucky lucky man..

I looked for a long time too. This was on Craigslist. Larrygee saw it listed. He uses a phone app called Craigslist Pro, I think. It searches anywhere for key words and notifies you when new ads appear.

Talk about lucky! The seller was a bit desperate to pay off his loan and was only asking $2,500!! It's an 08 with 5,600 miles, and I think the book value is around $3,000 - $3,200. I saw other sellers asking up to $4,000 for 08s.

By the way, I've only ridden it for an hour or so, and I can tell this bike ROCKS!!

So, since you have an 08 DR650 like I do, how does it compare? Different ends of the spectrum for sure.. Im interested to see if the WR could be made into a comfortable long-distance mount, though that seat is intimidating

I think having the DR and WR would be a great mix- a good long distance adventure mount capable of almost all offroad (with work), and a shorter ranged day-trip tri-state bike like the WR for more difficult technical stuff.

Congrats on that purty bike!

Looks like a great day and just under the wire before full fledge gun season begins. No injuries was a good thing for sure.

Congrats on that purty bike!

Thanks! Well, I don't know if they're really that far apart... There's a LOT of overlap in the two.

The DR may have a small edge in comfort, but hey, they're both naked dualsports. You could hang a flyscreen or windscreen on either, and there are better seats available for both. Otherwise, the ergos are essentially identical. The WR is MUCH taller.

As for engine character, I had heard they both had about the same peak HP (about 33 - 35?) but the 250 had to wind up to high RPM to make it, so it would be buzzier and wheezy at highway speeds. NOT! The 250 pulls as hard as the 650 EVERYWHERE. It feels like a torquey, strong thumper, not like a high-strung, buzzy revver at all!

I think the PO may have performed a bafflectomy on the WR, cause mine is LOUD and backfires and pops a bit on decel, so I may not be dealing with stock airflow.

Along with the better suspension than the DR, I think the WR is going to replace it. If you want a woods/trail bike like a 250 and a street bike, I would go with a better street bike than the DR. I've done 250 mile days on mine, but it was tough with the stock seat. But what do I know? Some people ride DR650s across the country, to Alaska, or around the world!

Last ride of the year

Weather permitting, I want to hit a few spots after the Rally at the Stagecoach Restaurant.

Chief Red Eagle's grave site isn't far away and maybe visit my old, old pal Mr. Mim's and show yawwl his dozen or so antique tractors.
I'd like to swing by my wifes resting place to make sure the flowers are still ok.

Also, time/weather permitting, I really need to do maintenance on my geocache located at the train tunnel.
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache...9-cc09c29c3a23

It'll be a lot of riding, and your welcome to go too.
Probably need to leave the Stagecoach Rally around 11:30 or so.
