Well, this morning was a comedy of errors.
I figured on sunrise around 6:00am. I failed to realize how late sunrise actually is post-daylight savings time change. Getting up at noon most days will do that to you. So I arrived at the tag location, Delaware County; NW corner of Carpenter and Winter Roads along the Olentangy River, to see the silhouette of the old J. Beiber Saw and Grist Mill (now part of the state's scenic river preserve program) through the 5:30 am dark and rain. The mill dates to around 1830, and was once the hub of a crossroads town called "Carpenter's Mill". A few photo attempts failed due to the dark and weather. Fine, methinks, I'll go to Bob Evans and get some coffee and wait for sunrise, and take a few shots at daybreak. Except... no fucking wallet. Great. So I decide to sit under the awning of the Redwing Show place on US23 and get out of the rain, and wait for dawn. GPS claims a sunrise of 6:30-ish. That turned out to be bullshit. Finally, incapable of waiting any longer, I rode back and took the shots in the dark. First one was an attempt to illuminate what I could using my headlights. Oh, well, TAG all the same! Next to be posted soon. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The available information and chain of logical progression:Name/location of observastory within 3 miles The road he's parked on for the new tag has no stripes = NOT a state route The building is brick, large, and abandoned Plenty of trees around Within the radius of the old tag, the most prominant thing around having trees and county roads nearby is a river Old brick abandoned buildings near rivers tend to be mills A search for mills near Delaware gets you more information via google including pics of the tag MeefZah went on to utilize other resources that I did not in order to nail the specific location. I knew that I wouldn't be able to ride it so I dropped the investigation at that point. ...thinking like a cop is cool...

Yeah, that's how I found it!
Actually, Sparky, sorry to dookey in your rice pudding, but Luke inadvertently mentioned the "cool old power plant looking building along the Olentangy R near Delaware" to Meredith and I over lunch a month or so ago. I gots a memory like a steel trap, I does. 'Cept for changing the daylight savings time setting on my GPS and bringing my wallet with. Damn, this is like a drug. I go out, score, race home, tie the tourniquet on, and upload the sweet rush into my veins! I can't do anything else before I do that. Right now I got a morning crap brewing so bad I'm standing up at the keyboard, back arched, grunting and squeezing my sphincter shut. Mind over (fecal) matter... must upload pic... Next tag: ![]() This is an easy one, but a clue anyway: The movie version of Steven King's short story was filmed here.

Meef, you're an addict alright.
Good job getting the information surrounding the mill.

Nice perspective shot of the new tag. I wanted bad to ride to that side last time I was there but was concerned about how well the pavement would be there. The doors half way up those turrets are... head scratchingly cool.
