I had the same thing happen to me riding it through a small snowstorm when I brought it home. Stuck at about 30MPH. I'm thinking the cable might need to be lubed. Luckily I save the Ural for the real cold weather.

a little update
exhaust studs have been ordered
and heli coils and cobalt drill bits will be put to work as soon as the bolts arrive

basically i will have to drill out the original studs, and insert heli coils so that i can use the new original bolts
bummer but at least I am on the road to solution

I have a 1988 nx 250 and am looking for a lugage rack.

• Will an OEM model from a later model bolt on without modification?
  • Does anyone have an OEM rack that they want to sell?
• Does anyone have any info on an aftermarket rack that will fit the NX 250?

All information is appreciated.

An OEM mount just went for like $260 on Ebay.

From what I understand the NX doesn't get a lot of love in aftermarket parts. So I'll be fabricating something up here sometime.

I pieced together a new OEM rack on line at Cycle Parts Nation and it's a little less than $200 with out shipping.

Honda of Troy has them for around $150.

so there are parts around, just takes some patience

I'd love to see the pics, in reference to see how much is left, and how much progress you have made..

Two other methods of rust destruction....

Electrolysis: Using a nail, some electrolyte..and a battery charger/tender...electrically seperate the rust from the stud...
You'll have to do some research on rust removal here with the site search...

Acids:
Rust is a base. Acids destroy bases.
Use naval jelly (phosphoric acid)
vinegar (acetic acid)
OJ (citric acid)
Mag wheel cleaner has the acid in it too...

Be careful if you try acids, they work on aluminum and steel as well...it's just they work on the oxides (rust) quicker.

Those price seam to be right. Check eBay too, there has been several parting out on there lately.

I don't have an iridium plug...
I use the Z model of the stock NGK heat range...works great...
