I've sold my '86 and am just now digging in to the '04 I got. Much better to work on a newer bike. This one has only 16k miles on it. She is naked down in my garage right now...

Digging up the past
I've been looking at a 2006 Connie with 17,000 miles for $3300obo. Sounds like a good deal!
I've looked through this thread and I've read the last 10 pages of the C-10 section of the "Concours owner Group" web site. Just about everything I've read says they are great bikes that will last 150,000+ miles with preventive/regular maintenance. I know about the hydro lock problem. No big deal to correct. I've read about the pitted cams. Then I see this on the COG forum... http://forum.cog-online.org/ Everything sounded great until I read that. I don't like the oil light coming on when the engine is running in anything I own. One guy said he checked it with two different aftermarket oil gauges and there was definitely no oil pressure when his bike did this. One or two guys who replied said they added a little bit more oil and it helped. Another said it helped once but that it still did it occasionally. It seems to be 2006 model year specific. Whats the real deal? Have any of you 2006 owners experienced this?

bwalsh-it's nothing to worry about. Mine did it once, now I make sure it's full to the upper mark and all is well. The C-10 is a far from perfect bike, but all-in-all, it's a decent ride. Most of the quirks on these are easily fixed. Are there faster bikes? Hell yeah! Are there better tourers? Yup! Are there cheaper bikes out there? A few. The C-10 is a great bang-for-the-buck bike. Do the hydra-lock fix and have fun. There's a reason Kawi sold as many as they did for as long as they did.

Updated the farkle list. I'll be parting this bike out over the next few weeks of it's farkles and selling the bike fairly or close to stock. If anyone want anything send me an e-mail (DO NOT PM).

I've had my connie for about 250 miles now. Man, it is fun to screw on the throttle at 65mph and watch cars in your rearview get small real quick.

The day I picked up my 2000:
![]() ![]() And yesterday afternoon, 3 years, 4 months and 1 day later: ![]() Apart from oil and tyres, in the past three years, the only failure so far has been a faulty water pump and a worn out rear shock. I figure, with the maintenance I've been doing, and just basic care, this bike should easily do another 75k without issue. |

New owner of a 1995 C10 purchased from the original owner yesterday. There are 29,600 miles on the bike.
This is bike number umpteen for me and each bike is very different from its predecessor. I was riding a KLR 250 until yesterday. I've been pulling panels and poking and prodding. When I pulled #1 plug cap I noted about 1/2 tsp of oil collected around the plug. When I pulled #4 plug cap, the well was almost full of oil. I haven't gotten into 2 and 3 yet and it looks like pulling the coils will make access easier. The oil in the plug wells? My first guess is a leaking valve cover gasket.

I love my 99. Im about to turn over 100K and have only have minimal maintenance costs. I'm confident that I will get a good 15k+ more mile out of this bike. For the price and the longevity the c-10 is hard to beat.
