I'm a noob poster, but happened to see your question & was recently in a similar situation after acquiring my 530. To keep our old pal Murphy away, I wanted to have (at a minimum) spare o-rings before starting an oil service. Here is a kit offered by KTM which includes all o-rings, screens, and then some. KTM # 00050000066

This thread has saved me a countless amount of time, trouble, and money. Definitely worth skimming end-to-end as time permits, if you are unfamiliar with the model. Glad to get a chance to repay a microscopic portion of the help it has given me.

I have a weight saving packing secret you might be interested in. I don't recall there was a huge weight savings between the stock pipe and an FMF. I bought an aftermarket because mine was fiddled with and was too loud. This picture below is of a very cooked KTM branded FMF. Ice racing kills packing. Mine FMF is starting to get a little loud. I'll be packing it very soon.

Looking good Paul! We are switching our 2012 Berg masks to a blue version of the one you have in order to fit the KTM specific Squadron as well. Did you make the adapter plate yourself?

PS: Bikes have already arrived in Chile and are now in customs clearance. Trip starts this weekend!

Normally pipes are one of the cheapest places on a bike to save some weight but in the case of the KTM it's going to cost you around $50 per ounce.

Stock 2012 can with cat removed:

Akra is -400 grams, and you still have to add the stock mounting rubbers and spacers:

I'm about to buy the lighting kit for my XCRW 450 but I noticed on my rear fender one of the tabs or holders is snapped off. Would this be an issue to put the rear light on? Could I still put it on and just rig it up somehow? I actually like the sticker scheme that's on this fender and would hate to have the nice decals set be ruined by a plain new fender.

Also the manual says to drain the tranny oil and refill. About refilling, it says refil until oil flows from the bolt down bottom but THEN it says to fill up to it fills out? Does this mean fill it up until it flows out of the hole I'm pouring the oil in?

If you think you have put in more than 900 ml, there is a overflow hole on the right side of the trans above the footpeg that you can remove and excess oil will drain out.

So it's like my CRf250r and really don't fill the tranny till it flows out top instead only until it flows from the bolt then? I'm buying a measuring cup for this....so much more confusing WITH a manual.

It's happened a few times lately, I'm not taking aim at D.R. in particular, just throwing in a reminder of the rules.

OK, moderator hat off. Thanks for all the awesome contributions here!

I use left over quart oil bottles and pre fill them with 900ml of the oil of my choice(bought by the gallon)... never bother with the over flow bolt.

Ortlieb Bags

Anyone ever try the Ortlieb roll top bags on the 530? I have been looking at these for some time and caomparing them to the Giant Loop stuff. Specifically, the Ortliebs with the hard plastic side that rests against the bike.
