I have no idea how you guys keep your bikes looking like they never get ridden. Hodaka, the case covers don't have any scars on them. Do you change them after every ride?

An inquiring mind wants to know.

I knew it would do that but in one decent bump? We rode last Sunday in 108 temps, some steep rocky stuff and crawling through tight trails lined with manzanita.
My 2011 530 doesnt have a fan on it yet, never boiled over once,I was amazed.
The guy on the 2012 500EXC I was riding with, his 500 boiled on every trail with the fan buzzing away full time. Hes had it re-mapped and de smogged it. Im not sure what the deal is there?
I rode his bike and liked it alot though.

Not much any more...a Ace 100 that it. I used to collect them though, had 17 in the garage at one time . I'd like to find another Super Combat and a Wombat some day.

I have always rode with my feet on the outer edge of the pegs, just the way I got used to riding. Because of this my boots stay clear of the side cases and they stay wear free :-). It also helps that my bikes see mostly desert and very little mud...Mud takes its toll on a bike quickly!

@ Hodakaguy:)Thanks for the riding adaptation info. I will have to see how that plays into my riding style or lack thereof.

Headlights

Are there any headlight upgrades that can be done without replacing the stator? I have done a search for headlight on this thread and got the error message. I would like to use LED if possible due to the low draw, but ultimately am looking for something that actually works as a headlight instead of a large marker.

I'm working on something with ( http://www.globetrottin.com/products.html ) that might be pretty awesome and exactly what you're talking about. There will need to be changes to the electrical system (the addition of a Tympanium rectifier and adding a jumper wire to the circuit to convert the entire bike to DC) that aren't hard or very expensive.

It'll be another 2 weeks or so before I have an answer though. Stay tuned.

Hmmmmm.. that's a really interesting kit - I read the thread where he posted that up (quickly) and I don't see where he converted anything over to DC from the AC Circuit - I wonder if he did?
The one issue I'm worried about going to LED is that running LED's on an AC circuit will oscillate the diode's and wear them out prematurely. The one I'm working on, we're going to convert the circuit to DC.

Is it just a matter of a jumper wire to convert the system to DC?" Floating the ground" is a term I keep hearing to do with this.
I am not an electrical person when it comes to bikes.

No, you have to replace the stock regulator with a regulator/rectifier and rewire a few things. Not sure if you can use the Trailtech kit with the stock stator?

You can buy the TT reg/rec and float the ground on the stock stator, or buy the complete kit that has a higher output stator. It's plug and play for a full DC bike. The squadron kit assumes you have dc power already setup. It's mentioned in the fine print on the BD site I'm pretty sure.
