MPG never dips below 45mpg dualsporting and is usually right up around 50mpg.

I'd have to agree. I usually get between 40-50mpg depending on terrain on my '08 530 EXC-R.

Installing a new piston right now and lost the sharpie marks on the timing chain. Had already installed the piston/cylinder/head, so used the kickstarter to turn the engine over but there's no trace of any marks left anywhere on the timing chain. KTM service manual just says 'make sure the crank is at top dead center' but can't find anything in the manual about how to set the crank to TDC. Probably need to remove the stator cover and am guessing there will be some timing marks on the flywheel or something?

EDIT: nevermind. Found the answer on KTMtalk.

Best way to locate it, ignition cover off, turn the crank until the clockwise edge of the raised block on the flywheel matches the counter clockwise edge of the black box (pulse coil). That is approximate TDC, now screw in the indexing bolt (without washer) until lightly snug, then back out one turn, try turning the crank, IF your in the notch it will rattle forward or back just a couple degrees. once confirmed that your in snug the bolt & check your cams

There is a bolt on the right side cover below the water pump with a copper washer/spacer. Remove it and turn the crank till you find the slot. You should be able to put the bolt back in without the washer and lock the crank at TDC.

Here's Bora20's seat.
I have that exact seat. Soreness never even enters my mind, yes that good.

valve clearance

I just got a low hr 530 exc, just checked the valves for the first time. Its time to confess my ignorance, will the clearance tend to increase or tighten? thanks!

50mpg on a 530? Mine never spends enough time on both wheels to get much over 40mpg. The ft wheel is for ever clawing at the sky while the back tire shoots huge gouts of earth out the back.

Is there another way to ride these things?

Signed,perplexed.

Same here. Have you looked-up Hodaka's posts and parts lists yet? Need to figure out exactly what parts to order and haven't had time to dig up that info. Know it's in here somewhere...

EDIT: here it is

Yeah, and that's with a 41mm FCR on it. Otherwise all stock except for a full FMF exhaust. But am just putting around most of the time. As much as I know you hate it, using this thing primarily as transportation right now.
