It might be me, but I'd like to check the compression on the bike. I can't find any reference to what it should be ? I see it mentioned as a test, but no value range given. Nothing in the maintenance manual for it either apart from a ratio.
They run like a puffball till the stock muffler is either opened up or tossed for a muffler that flows, then the EPA jetting must be fixed . Once this is done 4th gear wheelies are a snap. The gearing of course must be changed out to 14/50 or there abouts.
(oops, yours is an XCW I see, should be fast out of the box)

Potential next bike??

Found a potential bike. What do you guys think??? What were the problems with the 2008 models?? What do I need to look out for? Here are the details....

2008 KTM 530 EXCR... Steet legal....The bike has about 2200 miles on it... Maybe around 95 hours.. It has some excellent upgrades.. Good condition.

Suspension has been professionally revalved for trail riding.... only a few rides on it since the revalve... have original springs...

There is a HT oil cooler installed professionally

Upgraded stator
14 / 50 gearing and new chain.... perfect trail riding set up...
2 gas tanks.. one stock and one 3.1 dessert tank
tires are in good condition..
Asking $5600....he said he is going to drop the price some

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am not a big fan of where KTM put the key. Maybe it's just my bike, but you can't turn the key without it rubbing against the front number plate headlight assembly.

Some 2008's had issues with oil burning, some had no problem,Ive been told early 08's could have that issue. Updated rings/piston is the thing to do.
With 2000+ miles on it he would know if it had problems.

Occasionally some have had oil transfer issues from trans to engine or is it the other way? But many have no problems,a buddy has an 08 450 and hes had no worries with it at 5000+ miles, runs like new still.

They are considerably more fun then a DR650.

I love the new look of the top clamp and the computer relocate!

Sent you a pm about bars.

The rear rack is made by these guys www.globetrottin.com
They have been awesome to work with. Rack is nice and sturdy, and helps me to not miss my 990.

I'm selling my EXC-R seat

I put my very comfortable seat up for sale in the Flea Market.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=892809

It made the 530 a much more pleasant place to sit.

How do you find the big 6 gallon tank? I am trying to decide between the 3.4 and the 6.3? I am planning on doing some single track and am thinking the 6.3 might be to big?

I had the same tank on my 530. I really liked it. You don't have to put 6 gallons in to cut back on the weight. Whatever gas you do put in, it's sitting lower than the stock tank. It's made out of very tough plastic that worked great for crash protection too.

If you do fill the tank, you will feel the added weight. I only needed the 6 gallon range a few times and for that it's great. Other wise I ran 3 to 4 gallons and liked the lower center of gravity. The size of the tank never bothered me on single track riding. And the bulk of it saved my radiators many times.

I just put a Clockworks 3.3 gallon tank on my 530,pretty slick! Its a little skinnier then the stock tank and the tank itself weighs a little less then stock.
For singletrack skinnier/lighter is better for me. And it still will go 130 miles at least.

Ive got a 4.2 Safari tank also and its only about 20 minutes to swap tanks

I wont be changing back to a smaller tank. Most of my rides are in northern baja. This tank gives me the security that I can at least make money for beer selling over priced emergency gas to my riding buddies.

Doesn't seem to affect the handling too much. If the handelbars can fit through, the tank will definitely fit. I don't ride very fast, so don't know how it feels at speed. It does not get in my way on slow stuff, and protects all sorts of good stuff when I drop it.
