V2r 2011
I wasnt fast (it took me 20hrs), but I did finish. I had two high speed crashes in the race. The first was early in the race, went into a corner way too hot and went into a bank. Broke the helmet cam off the helmet and spent way too long trying to find it buried in the dirt. Second crash was the worst. hit a big arse boulder in the middle of the trail, toseed me over the handlbars. Though for sure I broke the bike on that one, but the front wheel was still round and the bike still ran, but I did something to my right forearm and got some nasty road rash on my leg. My FMF mufller is all jacked up though
I'll write more later, for now, some sweet photos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Luggage
Just wondering the best wolfman luggage setup for the wr250x. Looking for opinions between two setups:
1. Wolfman Luggage Racks with wolfman dry saddle bags and dry duffle with 1 or 2 gallon rotopax mounted to the side or rear. 2. Wolfman Mini Beta Plus and Beta Duffle (adding rain covers) with 1 or 2 gallon rotopax mounted to the rear. Rides will include both riding to a location, setting up camp and doing day trips out coming back to camp while others will include rides where I set up camp only for the night and then pack up and move on. Any suggestions on either of these set ups before I pull the trigger?

Pack lighter....travel farther. You can get by on half of what you think, but it takes practice. Lots of pracice. Choose the system that helps makes you do that. And then, you'll enjoy the ride a lot better. HF

I've been using this system since I bought the WR-R new in February 2010 and have been very satisified with it. No additional racks needed and it holds my camping stuff well (I do pack lighter and have bought gear designed to be light and most importantly pack small). I've done several 1,000-1,500-mile multi-day trips with this setup. The weight distribution on the GL system is ideal IMO, keeping all the weight just ahead of the rear axle. Even loaded for a long trip it still handles well and nothing sticks out wider than your legs on the sides. My 2¢. YRMV.

Pix of my GL system on bike...
![]() This was for a 5-day, 4-night, DS trip earlier this summer. All the heavy stuff - including tools, tubes, etc. is in the bottom wings of the GL. Behind and above the GL in the Wolfman Tail Bag the heaviest item is the Kermit chair @ 5 pounds. Lighter items like clothes, water filter, dry camp food, etc. are in the tail bag. That's my rainsuit in the orange compression bag. It would actually fit inside the GL but I keep it handy on top to be easier to get at for summer showers. The total weight behind the GL, including the weight of the tail bag and Kermit, is less than 15 pounds. Total weight of all camping gear, including the GL and tail bag, is under 35-40 pounds depending on if I have water onboard or no water with plans to filter from a creek, etc. To me, the GL vs. a system that requires an additional steel (read more weight) racks allows me to take more stuff - like my beloved Kermit chair - without compromising handling. BTW, I also had a remote preload adjuster added to the rear shock so it's a quick change from regular to camping settings. Hope this helps.

I was always planning on doing this exact setup. Mostly because I was inspired by BigDog. After going on a hiking/camping trip this summer where we lived out of dry bags I realized after it was to late that anything that can puncture something like tools, tent stakes, bottom metal edges of an Off if not wrapped up in something soft will tear up a rubber dry bag quick. Since that trip I starting to rethink the dry saddle bags for longevity reasons. Do you find that to be true at all?
