Yeah, I caught that, fabricating a cross brace should be fairly simple, it's the quick release mounting kit that's somewhat more complicated to do yourself.

It's not really clear, but the racks sold by Wolfman are actually made by Backroads Moto, brmoto.com. It might be worth contacting him to see if there's some custom fabrication he could do for you if that's what you want.

If it checks out as presented, what's a good offer for it?
There's a clean 08 for sale in Seattle [dealer] for 4k. I don't know all the details, but the pic looks good:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcd/2627835978.html

a bike that old, even with only 200 miles would need a few things, brake bleed , fresh oil, maybe a fuel pump if it falls within the suspect range, so that all adds up to money. Was the battery on a tender? If not, it may be shot or close to it.

Outside of the People's Republic of Kalifornea I'd say offer 3500-4000max. But being in Sun Diego, where I think I've seen that bike prices tend to be inflated, offer 4000 and see what he says imo.

I bought my 2008 with 1200 miles on it in January. He was asking $4k and I offered $3800. It had lower link, skid plate and radiator guards in a box as extras, plus an extended warantee. I think it was a fair price, given that most of the 08's are offered in the low 4's, coupled with the fact that mine was like new, local, and I really wanted it.

Being local and as new saves a lot of hassle. It's worth something I would think. You could pay up for that bike a little and feel pretty good about it. A new WR lists for mid six!

Eh? Wolfman Racks Update

Wolfman is offering a Cross Brace for the larger bikes, but not the WR.

I've seen someone either in this thread or on one of the other forums post up a cross brace they made for the WR. The racks may have also been made by that same person. They were of similar design to the wolf racks. Anyone could fab some braces up themselves with a little welding or possibly even just clamp the brace to the rack. If I remember correctly they connected behind the plate somewhere.

As far as a fair price, I bought my 08 early this summer with 200 miles for $4200. It was a full days trip out of state and including gas I was out about $4400. No others were available in the area and I was sick of waiting. I don't regret a single penny. Overall the most enjoyable bike I've ever ridden. May be doing power mods over the winter to make the long slab commute more tolerable but it handles everything just fine as is.

Keeping the Vulcan for now. The ladies seem to love it.

I bought a 2008 with 224 miles last month. Blue Book was around $3750, but I paid $4000 for the bike and a Fly helmet. Finding one of the new design (2008 and up), with low milage, and hasn't been beat up, was a challenge.

There's a new 2008 and 2009 going for $5000 on cycletrader.com, so I think that used price is a little high and the seller needs to take a bigger hit on the depreciation.

Looks like the brace offered by Wolfman/Backroads is bolted on to a tab at the back of each rack. Don't see why Berg couldn't do something like that for a WRR as well--may just be a matter of getting our bike in his shop so he can do a takeoff for correct sizing.

Spot tracker weirdness...

I'm having a troublesome issue with my Spot tracker. I know there's a lot of Spot owners here...may want to follow what I'm going through over on the great big Spot thread.
