Hey Henrymartin,
I'm right there with you. I have a regrease or replace of the swingarm and linkage bearings(wheel beaings are new) coming up in a month or so prior to my summer trip to AK so if you settle on anything let us know as I don't fancy replacing bearings or regreasing any more than absolutely necessary.

Hey guys I just bought a tire that is 120/100/18... the guy at the shop mentioned it's probably too big for my bike... should I return it for a 100/100-18?

Size depnds on which tire and manufacturer. A 120/100 in any tire is probably too tall.
You need to physically measure what you bought against the stock tire if you have on. The rear can vary 1"-2" difference in height, which can and will make the bike handle squirrely, pusjing the front end.

OEM size is indeed a 120, but most knobbies are going to run taller.
A 110 could work, but a 100 is highly possible.
Again, depends on the tire.
I run a 110/80 Pirelli MT21 on the rear...I made all the mistakes....

I did that as well, and never noticed much more sound from the plate. It gets repeated here so often, that there must be some issue. Now the FMF Q4 I added to the bike, that requires ear plugs after awhile.

110/100/18 Should work on most all brands. Maxxis, Perelli, Dunlop. Have been using Maxxis Desert IT 110/100/18. Last well & works great.

120 width works fine on mine.

There is about a 1.5" difference in OD between the stock tire and this new knobby...

1) What brand/model is it ??? Different make and model tires vary quite a bit on the outside diameter. (example Dunlop 120 606's add nearly an inch of seat height to the WR) So, how long are your legs?

2) You may need to add a couple links to your chain... (i.e. move wheel to rear).
