It looks like an aftermarket tail rack is going to require drilling through the rear fender and mount to the cross braces underneath. I could see one of those Turbo City units with a grill on top and bag mounts on each side. Maybe spars going down to the buddy peg mounts. It would give a great spot on the side to hang an extra fuel jug!

Keep the info coming guys! I'm searching hi and low for DRZ400e (plated), but this might do the trick. Altitude might zap the 250 though....?

Is it possible to get a level, side photo of the bike? It does look good in your pic's, better than the Yamaha website, that's for sure!

There's no substitute for cubic inches, but if your riding involves a lot of change in altitude the fuel injection of the WR250R might offset a lot of the displacement advantage of the DRZ.

As Montesa said, provided the WRR's EFI is doing it's thing, it may actually outperform the 400 across a wide altitude range.

There aren't going to be many of these around. We are a pretty good size dealer and we've been cut back to 2 from the 8 we ordered. Last one was on the floor 36 hours, and we just got the new one in.

My dealer was allocated only one ... and I grabbed it before it hit the floor :-) rode it home today. Can't wait to put on some miles this weekend.

My dealer is really purplexed with the allocation given the volume of Yamaha bikes, quads and sleds they do each year.

Congrats on the purchase! I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised by this "little" bike. I think it was Nachtflug who said in another thread that his dealer (who's been around the block a time or two) told him not to think of this bike as a 250, and I think that sums it up perfectly. This bike doesn't feel like any 250 dualsport bike that I've ever ridden....it feels more like my old DRZ 400 (minus the weight, which is odd because my old DRZ was the "E" model, which actually weighed less than this 250...).

This whole thing about dealers getting their allocation reduced is odd. I wonder if this is an exchange rate issue. With the dollar being as weak as it is, maybe Yamaha feels there is enough demand in other countries that they can sell all they can make elsewhere and end up with more Yen in their pockets..... This is the same dynamic that is causing BMW to delay delivery (by nearly 8 months!) of their hot new GS800 into the US, so maybe it's the same now with the new Yammie.

That's very interesting about the BMW. I couldn't understand why they would display a production motorcycle at the Cycle World show in February but not sell it until September. Another possible explanation for the Yamaha is that dealers simply ordered more WR250Rs than Yamaha produced. That happened in the first year of Suzuki's SV650.

You guys are killing me.

I went and sat on one yesterday, it had already been lowered because someone wanted it but he couldn't fit even at the low setting.

Now your telling me they won't be around.

I already have two bikes and can't commit to getting rid of one for this bike....yet.

Even thought of financing but don't deserve 3 bikes at this point.

Maybe the scarcity will make up my mind for me.
There will be more next year.....dunno, that wr is stuck in my head now.

Look on the bright side. You'll be letting other people serve as guinea pigs in case there are any bugs to correct the first year.

That bike doesn't look so tall with you on it. How tall are you?

6', 170#. I lowered the height-adjustable shock ~1 cm, raised the forks ~ 1cm, and set the rear RACE sag at 3.5" (~33%).
This just allows me to flat foot it, but I usually only put one foot down as shown in the photo.
