Fetch the truck

PSYCLOPS - Go fetch!

OK so this buddy of mine has a brother that lives in Omaha. He has been looking for a decent little truck for my buddy. Well he found one and my buddy sent him the money to buy the truck. So what does all this have to do with me and riding. That's right, I'm the transport service.

When he tells me that Timmy found him a truck, I sit up and bark "I'll go get it." About a week later we plan it out "Easter weekend". That's it wheels are in motion. Bruce hands me a wad of cash on Thursday, and Friday morning I leave
Dallas headed north.

OK west but who cares, I'm outtahere!

The Bush to DNT north. I'm making good time. Falling into the groove of long travel mode, when passing through Denton I stop and change a tire for a woman that is trying to tell roadside assistance where she is. I told her to tell them nevermind. I whipped that tire's ass Nascar style and was back on the road in about 15 min. Hope that's gonna be enough good Karma to get me through.

@ the border

I've been working on the KLR and have been able to get some more topend out of it.

I keep after it till I get to The Arbuckle mountains where I pull over and pee on Oklahoma.

Back on the road looking for OKC.

Seeing 08 KLRs on long trips give me faith that my trip this summer will go alright. Keep up the good work.

There it is.

OKC

I pull into a Sonic in Guthrie and wolf down a double jalapeno burger.

I throw the leg back over the bike and blast off. I roll out on the highway and head north to Wichita.

Kansas

WOW, someone has their work cutout for them.

I get to Wichita and head northeast on the Kansas Turnpike towards Topeka. Just outta Wichita I pull into a truck stop for gas and to take a leak. I go into the bathroom and there is this chick staring at me while Im peeing.

I get down the road a ways and see the open range ablaze.

The rest of the trip was uneventful and I was focused on making it to my destination as early as possible.

It was cold. the sun went down and it got cold coming into Nebraska. I passed through Topeka and took the 75 north route towards Omaha.

I pull into a Liquor store in downtown Omaha at about 11:00 pm. I ask for directions and the lady behind the bulletproof glass lets me take a peek at the phone book map through the little package door/box/ tunnel thingy. I left Dallas with no maps at all. I studied the maps on googlearth before I left and would have made it, but I got cold, tired, and frustrated in downtown Omaha.

I get back on track and find the street Im looking for. I cant see the house #s. I remember back to where my buddy said the house was on the sat. photo and put myself in that area and just make a lot of noise until Timmy flags me down.

I pull right into his open garage. They had my spot all ready for me. A spot for the bike, my gear, and a comfy bed for me. Thanks Tim and Mary.

Dallas to Omaha: approx 14 hours and 705 miles.

I wake up around 9 and my hosts take me to breakfast. Thanks again guys yall rock. We get back to the house and I gear up and follow Timmy to the shop to get the truck.

We pull in and He and Lucy give me a tour of the property. The highlight is the outhouse with the glass door.

The view from the seat.

We back the truck up to a small hill and ride the bike right in. No problem. Strap it down and Im ready to go.

Thanks for the truck dude. I gotta get back to Texas for Easter, later.

Bye, Lucy.

The bike is riding great. Fits perfect in the back of the little truck.

Good quick report.

FYI about the truck. They're rock solid. I put 225,000 miles on my 89 (1 clutch, 1 water pump and 1 starter in 16 years) and donated it to charity when I bought my new a new 06 Frontier. I still see it around my side of town and it's still running strong. I think the guy who eventually bought it works as a painter and uses it daily.

Peace

I think this is a first RR with the new KLR. It looks good, and the ride looks good too.

Thanks for sharing.
