So great! I've already done the hard bags and the vstrom handgards. I have been so tempted to throw a set of Distanzia's on my 600 Bandit. Now it's a done deal.

I'm so ripe for this whole street bike/dual sport conversion thing. I'm standing at the precipice and as soon as I sell my last project - a 500 ninja powered 4 wheel dual sport, I'll be ready to jump.

That is a pretty cool bike, I like it !!!

How does that motor work off-road? I've never ridden one, does it have enough grunt or do you have to spin it?

Very inspirational.

Now this is a beast!!

I've been watching and loving this thread for a while now, and finally decided to get off my backside and post some pics of my latest project. First some history. Some years ago I bought a Yamaha TRX850 road bike off a mate and absolutely loved the thing, especially the motor, except I'm a dirt biker at heart, and the riding position aggravated an old wrist injury, so I sold it to buy a dirt bike.
Fast forward a few years, and this puppy comes up on ebay and I buy it for just over $1100. Ugly as a hatful of assholes, with 17 inch front and wheels, with a badly fitting seat and the tanks been reshaped by a blind man!

So since I've had it I've replaced the wheel s with spoked 17" and 21" wheels off a KLR650 Kawasaki. Was given a KLR650 rolling chassis so fitted the KLR forks as it made it easier to fit the KLR wheel. Used the KLR calipers after rebuilding them, and fitted the KLR front master cylinder as well.
Its looking a bit more like an adventure bike now. Next need to strip and paint the frame, fit the KLR headlight and rear guard. Hardest part is going to be finding a tank and seat to fit that doesn't look like a dogs breakfast.

I'd appreciate any tips/suggestions the folk on here might have.

That is so cool! Just yesterday I was reading about the TRX850 and it's 270 degree engine and thinking wow, that could make a fantastic adventure bike!

KLR forks are lightly sprung. I have Progressive replacement springs in mine and they're much better, firmer.
What does your bike weigh ? When you know that and can compare with a stock KLR then you'l know the way.

Your right Andrerav, the 270 degree crank on the TRX motor is a gem, and its the reason I've gone with this project. And yes, it does fit into the XTZ750 with a few minor alterations. Its quite a popular mod in the UK. The yamaha XTZ850 which won the Dakar several times was basically a XTZ750 with a TRX motor.

It works really well, it's pretty much on the grunt side of riding styles. If you read the build story link then you probably saw this vid where I ride it along a 2 track road (full of baby head size rocks that dont really show up well in the vid) and you can see it goes pretty good. The handling is way better than I had thought it would ever be when starting out. (that's relative once you get used to riding 400 lbs of bike down a trail )

See vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZtxZpJMyXk
