Here's another shot, fully clad and it seems to gave grown another can.
We took it down the local MX track and I'd just bought it off my mate with the cash in his hand. He's ecstatic, I'm crying. There's a countershaft sprocket in my hand. That was the weak link... ![]() But... I had the last laugh. I put 'V-twin Tenere prototype' in the small ads, and on the day the phone blew off the wall. |

motorcycle-superstore has tkc's in 17" sizes on their website, but unavailable. I left my email to be notified when they are. Now I kick myself for getting rid of the Ulysses.

I was wondering 1.) Where you got those headlights, and 2.) What brand are they? I have a 1983 Yamaha XZ550 that I am turning into a adventure bike and would really like to put two small headlights on mine. Thanks!

I am the "mate with the cash in his hand" as posted by Chris S. Thought I'd better sign up here myself so I can encourage you to start a new thread to keep us posted on your progress. I have no idea (20 years later) what those headlights were but they were very cheap and very nasty and not to be recommended. There are plenty of decent alternatives around I'm sure. I thought it was quite nifty to put the radiator out front there - might theoretically keep me warm too but didn't run long enough to find out. Do you have a cunning plan to convert to chain drive? It's the only way to get any ground clearance. As far as I recall, I cut the splined end off the bevelled output gear (from XZ) and welded that to the Tenere's sprocket carrier. Actually I must point out that I don't trust my own welding really so that was the one part I got someone else to do ... and that was the bit that failed! As the XZ had a housing around the bevel gears to keep oil in and dirt out, there was no proper seal on the gearbox output shaft so that leaked like crazy; kept the chain good though! There was no room under the Tenere tank for the XZ airbox so just had K&N filters; also improved the rear exhaust exit and fitted larger, equal sized, main jets all which appeared to make it run a bit better than standard. The bike ran about 700 miles, mainly at reasonable speed on main roads. I forget why I sold it exactly... maybe couldn't see a way around the oil leak and had another project. So Chris bought it just in time for the sprocket carrier to give up. Tee hee... I wonder where it is now? |

I know this might be a long shot, but I have seen the R1 with knobbies and handguards etc. It's AMAZING! I was wondering if you could upgrade the suspension of a 2001 f4i to be able to hadle a decently rough fire road or even a calm trail(if there is such a thing
). Because If i could, I definately would. The knobbies are the easy part.
