Recall notice

I got a recall notice in the mail yesterday. Its the "August 2010 Campaign NO,10V-273" for the Xbikes -Roll gear Pin Mounting Attachment-

Pin could break causing the chain to be caught and locking the rear wheel.

No biggie

FYI

Me too. It doesn't disable the clutch so I"m not scared but I also don't want to be stuck by the side of the road. I plan on getting it addressed asap.

That would be difficult. It's only the top chain roller mounting, not rocket science. They should also do the shock cr@p flap at the same time.

I got one today too. The thing is, when you guys posted about it a couple of months ago I called BMW USA and they checked my ending VIN digits and said my bike was not part of the recall.

So I'm wondering if this letter is sent out to every owner and your particular VIN may or may NOT be affected?? (I didn't read the letter entirely ;)

any guesses? It's a hassle to take a bike in for many people...

When this notice was posted on the "issues" thread in Thumpers back in June:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls...e&refurl=email

my 2009 X-Country was within the build dates mentioned (I checked the plate on the steering stem).

Two weeks ago when I brought the bike to my dealer for rear shock warranty replacement (bump stop torn up), I mentioned the recall on the roller mount and they had not heard about the recall.

While the bike was at the shop, they checked and found out about the recall and installed the replacement part.

I just received the recall notice in the mail this week.

Perhaps your dealer can double-check for you, Snooks.

Some nice roads in Scotland but off road situation requires local permission from a friendly landowner. Sounds like and interesting trip.

Pop in if you are passing.

yeah I used to always call it a starter clutch, but since having to deal with this issue, I got used to it being referred to as a sprag cluth or BMWs name for it, a freewheel - which tells you absolutely nothing
