Great deals still available on X Challenge
Hi all,
Firstly, many many thanks for all the fantastic info on this site. Because of your collective wealth of information I just bagged an X Challenge for a hell of a deal. They told me not to say how much but rest assured, if you want to get a new one for a fantastic price, call Max BMW in Troy NY. I dont work for them but want to pass on this info. I worked with Craig Cantey - give him a call and tell him Kev the Englishman told you to call. I called all the big east coast dealers and none of them had new ones left and the used ones they had were more pricey that buying a new one from Maxy!!! As mentioned by others on this site, Max BMW bought all the last Xs from the BMW warehouse in NJ. In any case, its a pleasure being among fellow X Challenge owners. Cheers. ![]() P.S. for pics of my towing adventure from NC to NY check this thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=417939&page=2 |

One thing stands out too -- all the BMW owners and buyers I met there were very friendly and a great bunch to talk to. Haning out with them was a pleasure. I usually hate the dealer stickers/tag plates that you get stuck with when buying a vehicle, but Im going to keep my Max BMW tag plate on my bike!

X back from the shop
just wanted to let you know about some issues on my X-Challenge
While riding to work, the bike all of a sudden lost its idle. I figured it was related to injection and cold weather and didn't think more about it. A minute later, the bike died. Trying to start it, it sounded like a rattle can! Bike went to the shop, and the guys took the top of, and found a small piece of metal lying on top of the piston They have spent a lot of time trying to find out where it came from to no avail. No damages found or anything. Bike had been serviced by them only 1000km before. The mechanic took the bike for a ride, it rode like a champ, but then stopped. This time a fuse blew, and it turned out that the fan had broken down, it was basically rusted to bits, causing the fuse to blow when it tried to start. As it looks now, both issues are covered by warranty (and the dealer has been superb) So guys, check your fan, might be a quality problem.

Have you seen this small piece of metal? What kind of metal was it?
Magnetic? Stainless? Was it recognizable as something anyway? Maybe a screw from the throttle butterfly? |

Nope, not yet. The mechanic was not in the shop when I picked it up, and we couldn't find it. I hope they still have it there as I want to see it and check what kind of material it is
It is only a metal fragment, mechanic could not figure out where it comes from/what it is. That is of course a bit scary, but I'll have to stress test the engine and ride it hard to see if something else happens

Actually, it was never ridden on salty roads. Bought it in may, and this failure showed up late november

Kutches Hard parts
I will get my first batch of two tomorrow and there both spoken for.
BUT when I pick them up I will ask him how much would it cost to go for round two with more this time. I will get a rough break down so there are no surprises and start a list of how many. now I dont want to go crazy, but I am willing to get some out there to the forum. I only ask that I get what I have into it. I am not trying to make any money on them. Just passing on Kutches good graces of passing them on for us to enjoy and beat up. lol I will report tomorrow on my findings if its worth our wild. and I will also know the quality of the produce once in my hand.

Silly question.. The radiator fan? How do you go about checking it? Remove and reinstall? You'd be a bit worried about where that metal came from!

And yes, I am slightly concerned (understatement of the week) about that metal piece. But then again, there is nothing I can do about it and it is a warranty issue, and I have spare bikes if needed. I am not the worrying kind'a guy...
