Puke I had to go for a ride this weekend, too! Ironbutt from Tally to Ocala N.F.

I've only had this bike since March- but in that whole time have only done about 100-=125 miles max in one day.

I want to do some long distance touring- go to some meet-ups- but wonder what my personal limit would be. I might have to trailer it...Ugh! I needed to test the bike with a full load of camp gear, etc.

I did about 210 going down to one of my favorite places in Florida- Hopkins Prarie Camp Ground in the NW sector of the Ocala National Forest.

And I did 220 miles coming back- within a 24 hour period- all but the forest on asphalt.

My seat was re-stuffed by that guy down south....I fergot his name...and I have a cushion, but I could only go for a couple of hours before my butt got the willies. I had to stand up on the pegs ever so often- and that helped a lot.

I think my limit in one day would be 300- 400 max. I prolly couldn't do that day after day. My front tire is stock, and my back tire is an IRC gp110.

With 606's who knows?

Here are some pix, with my casio play camera:

Camp at dusk...

http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/a...xels/bear1.jpg

Over the hill and WTF??? Heavy brakes.

Oh- I thought it was just a big dog. Sorry for the quality- maximum electronic zoom on the casio....

I've photographed a bald eagle there, and there was a gator about 100 yards from my tent. I saw wood storks, a kite, and other birds. The bugs are getting pretty bad, but there was a constant breeze the whole time I was there. They close it up for the summer in a couple of weeks. Gets real snakey, too.

So many choices!

Why are there large areas with leaning trees???? Hurricanes and shallow roots?

Oklawaha river just west of the forest... They shot Tarzan movies here and at the Silver river at Silver Springs. Some monkeys escaped in the 50's and now there are wild colonies still living there.

Cross Creek, in the SE corner of Alachua county. It is where the book the Yearling was written. Has not changed much.

Laugh Calling all FF's for a Weekend ride....

Nole Driver and Moi (hockabigloogy) are headed to Talladega Friday for a ride and camp sing along. So's none of you think we're kweer, it would be good if there was a third wheel. Or even more. Back roads, dirt roads, exploring the Talladega NF area on Saturday. I'll come back on Sunday.
Not into scratching up my nice stock handguards, time trials, or racing- just a good ride, find some local vittles, and knock back a brew at the end of the day.

Yes there were: mostly some sort of flies, and mostly about half dissolved. I had never seen the species that sports an umbrella/funnel/cap of sorts, that funnels rainwater and probbaly heavy dew away from the pitcher. I'm referring to the last picture in Scot's post #231.

That was a thrill, but I also have to say that I was pleasantly taken aback to see a big ole long-haired country boy enthusiastically shooting away at nature -- with a camera. And a rather well-handled one at that. On the video I took that day, his voice can be heard saying that he'd like to camp in that location for "at least a week".

On a less natural note, the picture immediately preceding this post is spectacular too. Where in da' hell is that '53 DeSoto? If I'm not totally off track, that DeSoto sports a 292 hemi . . .

Thumb

EZ to find...it is on the right side of the road in a semi wooded area just before Crawfordville (coming from Tally). There are a dozen or more trucks, and a bunch of cars, too.
