Thanks for the kudos. My skills on the big bike have improved enough over the last year that I'm completely confident that now I can get myself into a really serious situation. When shit starts to go wrong you just have to take it in stride, relax and enjoy the adventure. I read a funny quote somewhere once, "An adventure is something which while you are having it, you wish you were someplace else." I find that to be true sometimes.

It was a fun solo trip and I intend to do another solo DV trip in the coming months but this time in some more interesting terrain.

Beautiful scenery and stunning pictures. I really enjoyed your ride report. You have the right idea: as long as there is plenty of gas and water you're not lost. Thanks for taking the time to share your ride.

We got there, and I swear we saw the banjo playing kid from the movie Deliverance walking down the street. We stopped for gas and my buddy said he didn't want to stop and eat in Trona! We kept on going...

Someone who knows about Trona has to fill us all in - what's the story about that place????

BTW - Very nice RR and pics! You done good!
I read in another ride report, wish I could remember which one, that the burritos at the gas station in Trona are excellent. Who da thunk it? If I'm eating at a gas station, I'll hold out for the Mobil station on Hwy 120 in the eastern Sierra.

My dad did hard time in Trona during the late 60's building homes. Apparently they are still standing but no reason to live there.

Hey, I'm glad this RR percolated back to the heap. I was laughing out loud about that ride up the hill where you field stripped your peripherals. I guarantee that will happen to me and then I'll be thinking of you .

On the Trona topic. I have actually gone there numerous times, just to camp out in the pinnacles. Took my kids there a few years ago and it was all closed off cuz they were filming the latest Planet of the Apes there. Just went through there last week heading to DV to camp with the family.

oK, now I"m going to have to check on your other RR's. Great pix and narrative

Thanks amigo. I am kinda proud of this report since it was my first one and I had no clue what I was doing. I pretty much spilled my guts in it cause it was the right thing to do. I'm not a good rider, the 990 kicks my ass, and I really dont care where I wind up, and I'm all about having a good time. Is what it is I guess. I'm having fun, thanks for coming along and enjoying it with me! thats good stuff.

thanks man.

Thanks man! Well actually those star trails sucked, but I am getting better at them. Will have some more for you later this year on my south america trip.

From Grandview Camp, White Mountains, Inyo N.F. CA on a recent KTM 990 trip. About 3 hours worth of exposure for the star trails.

Thanks! I would have liked to get the bike in there as well but it didnt work out. I illuminated the trees with a very small campfire.

FWIW, Grandview Campground has inky black dark skies. Only a little light dome from Bishop is visible in the northwest. I do alot of astrophotography from that site and it doesnt disappoint, every bit as dark as the north end of Death Valley, and at 9000 ft. its above alot of atmospheric crap which is a bonus.
