Did it last year by myself. 3 days. Not too much sightseeing. The thread's in here somewhere. Other fellas have done it and posted lots of pics- Cannonshot? I'll be up for another one in a month or so.

Well, when I did it, it was more of a get-away. I wasn't really into the tourist thing- just wanted to ride. I'd say that 5 days would be good. A full day in the UP making a nice loop to the top, some touristy shopping by the bridge, a day exploring some seasonal road loops in central lower MI. No rush. I guess it depends what you're looking to do. I like the idea of pulling into an Econolodge before sundown, shower, then hit a local pub type of thing. Good nights sleep, then up with the crack of Dawn.

That's just me.

I'm from Chicago and new to the whole dual/sport touring thing and was planning on doing a loop around Lake Michigan sometime this summer/fall, possibly 4th of July or labor day weekend. Where's the nearest off road trails to Chicago?

My wife has me occupied with her family durring the forth. I'm going to ride around lake MI this monday- wednesday, There are not a lot of close by places to go. Bong state park has a few trails that are almost always closed http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/ORG/land/...specific/bong/ so i strongly sugest calling before you go. Especially with all of the rain that WI has been getting.

Another thing that I have found is that if you look up member "CannonShot" he as pretty much outlined and mapped it all. And although i have not met him yet he seems pretty helpful.

www.thumpertalk.com has a where to ride section in their forum. If your willing to head southwest or towards Indy, there is stuff out there. It's not close but it's legal.

still some work is needed to finish.this picture was taken after first 5 mile test run.still rest of the bike needs to be painted silver,i just instaled hard side cases and smal fairing.now the bike mach my cage

Thursday evening around 7pm, riding east on Dundee between Arlington Hgts and Buffalo Grove Rd? Pretty sure it was a GS.

It wasn't me. But maybe it was the same GS with a top box that I saw the Monday morning before last zipping along the shoulder of the Ohio street exit ramp off the Kennedy while I was dutifully sitting in a line of cars on my yellow GS.

Got back on Thursday night and Friday off the bike just felt wrong...so a fellow inmate and I headed out west in Wisconsin and did a bit of digging around. He did a write up on it...just thought you guys could wet your whistles a bit on it.
