Hey guys,
My girlfriend and I are leaving Winnipeg and headed for Newfoundland (east coast of Canada). Our route is taking us south through Chicago then up through Detroit. We would like to spend a day in Chicago checking stuff out and taking a break. Is there anything that you would highly recommend we see, or places to eat? Also where would you recommend we park our bikes during our stay? Somewhere secure hopefully, so we can walk around without having to worry about them. Finally, does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap place to stay within the city?

Thanks in advance.
Chris

If you are into the show Diners Drive-ins and Dives I highly recommend two of the places they reviewed. The first is Smoque BBQ. The other is Kuma's Corner. They are located close to each other on the northwest side of the city. Smoque is the best BBQ place I've ever been to. Kuma's Corners has very good burgers and sandwiches. Their mac and cheese is the best I've ever had. You specify the ingredients. We had bacon in ours!

It's been quite awhile since I parked a bike in Chicago but Grant Park Garage just east of the loop was fine for me when I've taken a bike into the city in years past.

Today my family went to the city for an event that was next weekend. So we did the tourist thing and took the water taxi south to Chinatown and north to Michigan Avenue. On Michigan we went to the John Hancock centers skydeck. It is worth seeing. Cost is $18 each adult. The water taxi was $10 for an all day pass.

What he said.

If you really want to go, find a hotel with a parking garage that might be more secure that just any garage. Keep in mind it will cost $40 a day to park in any garage in the loop or Mag Mile area. Just park the bike and walk.

Garrett's Popcorn Get the caramel corn.

Oven Grinders Get a 1/2 pounder each and a Mediterrenean bread. If you go a round 7:00 pm plan on 1 - 1.5 hour wait. I still think it is worth it. It's the only place I would wait that long to eat.

Gino's East isn't bad for Chicago pizza

You didn't say when you where coming?
