Have you heard about this new camera that allows you to pick the focus point(s) AFTER you've shot the photo? You can focus on a subject anywhere in the field of view and do it for any number of different subjects in different versions of the shot. If I like the motorcycle as focal point I can pick that. If my wife likes the Tetons behind the bike she can pick that one. If you e-mail the photo to someone else they can make their own choice.

I don't know how I feel about all that, really... Some of my favorite photos I've ever shot were on film - no second chances except for a few darkroom tricks (dodge and burn, sepia, etc.). Perhaps I'm just getting old and all the googaw gizmo whizzbang stuff just doesn't appeal to me all that much. I prefer to develop my "eye" and composition skills rather than manipulate a ho-hum photo into something that looks better.

OK, after re-reading that I'm now convinced: I AM getting old and crotchety! Better go for a ride to cleanse my mind and soul.

BTW, some of the photos on this thread are fooking phenomenal regardless whether they were manipulated or not. The common thread through all of them, however, is that people were OUT THERE riding, experiencing, and photo-documenting the world around them.

If you had any brains in your head you would get on your bike, turn around , and ride for your life. This place is a shimmering vortex of despair and hopelessness..... it will ruin you

Not at all true. Ansel Adams' genius was his ability in the darkroom. Photoshop is just the modern day darkroom. ALL great photographers do some level of post processing.

I think the "they" you're talking about are the ones who open Photoshop for the first time, freak out because of its complexity, and never open it again.

Also there are those who wouldn't touch photoshop with a bargepole and are happier with Digikam or the Gimp.

Still using film and wondering why none of your shots are any good?

Enough of this nonsense Photoshop is currently used by most professional photographers. And nowadays almost all 'amazing' digital photos are taken with expensive camera equipment (which include their own 'Photoshop' technology in their highly developed sensors).

This thread is about photos and not about your personal preference of old school vs. new school photography. Just enjoy the photos and if you don't like post-processed images keep it to yourself &
