Ohh,,,, The Rapture... I hope it's tomorrow so those that loath the slut dirt ball known as Earth can go elsewhere to heaven (or to TX w Hick) and leave the good riding (etc) to me and those like me. (don't ban me just cuz i sound like Rush Limbaugh!)

Maybe next time, we need to do another up and over the Unitas this Spring.

We depart tomorrow morning at 7:30AM, our Friday destination is Kanab via the backroads (no interstate). Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Kanab hotel? Saturday is all dirt to Toroweap overlook, ending up in STG (or maybe Vegas ) for Saturday night. Depending on how our butts feel Sunday, we plan to take a west desert route back to SLC. The UT weather forecast looks great...keep the shiny side up this weekend

Yeah... She definitely might.. But honestly she is into it and asked me to look at some smaller trucks like 12' boxes. The plan would be -- good cab, with an extra cab so you can put the seats back and its comfy... -- check...

Then pull the box off and probably build something out of aluminum. I'd then like a 4-6 foot deck on the back to load bikes on to and/or just a nice porch. Roof would be 7' tall and the front would have a progression so it would be more aero dynamic so it would hopefully get 13-15 mpg or higher. At 55 it would probably get closer to 18 or 20 or so I figure. But I drive 65-70 most of the time and this one cruises at that speed. So, reasonably decent mileage -- check.

A friend has a vegetable oil processing facility. He collects veggie oil from restaurants all over Heber mostly and then runs it though this crazy contraption to make it automotive grade and then sells it relatively cheap. I've done a couple myself and have a bunch of the components so it might be relatively inexpensive So, good mileage and cheap alternative fuel. -- check.

And then simple and older mechanical injection. Not quite as efficient but still pretty good and worth it. I would then likely put a big old 4" exhaust on it instead of the 3" and do a little work so it would also have very good power..

Inspiriation comes from two places. Some of the Dakar trucks:

And then from some of the guys who also have truck-based campers... For example here is a Mog camper:

But finally is that we already have a good little simple camper, Brown Sugar, a '77 Ford Camper Van and she's been to hell and back. I learned/noticed that you really don't need 4WD in my opinion... So it's the poor man's camper as a lot of these 4WD campers cost a fortune and when you are in a spot where you need 4WD, stuff starts falling off of walls etc and it's a bitch. So, just keep a come-along handy,or a winch in the front if you get stuck. Also these things, as long as they stay operational, really hold their value as well. So a $4G truck with low miles/decent shape (such as that Mitsubishi) can pretty quickly evolve to a $20G-$40G camper if you do everything right...

But yes, I know it's nuts... :)

Here is a pretty sweet KTM truck I found on the internet...

There is a very subtle hint here as to why it's a KTM truck.

I thought this was pretty cool, along the lines of the '04 950s...

Here is probably something along the lines of why that KTM truck is all jacked up...

250 x or r head?

Any one got one they want to sell reasonably priced? Long shot but have to ask.
Doing maintenance on the bike and took it in to Lindsay Machine and they report back saying its cheaper to get a different head. :-(

If not then I guess its time to head to ebay or ksl. Anyone else got a place I should look at?

tia!

These Dakar trucks would be PERFECT for my Bug Out Vehicle.

Wonder what they cost. I have $7k for a downpayment.

If only it was horseshoes. I'm sure you are so close. One more zero and you might
be able to put a sticker on it.

Yeah, I was being facetious. But c'mon, you can't tell me owning that truck wouldn't be badass.

Figured in the event of a catastrophe and the interstate was clogged, I could just run some stuff over.

I've also considered getting a high-rail as my BOV.

You guys probably think I'm obsessed, that's OK. I'm not, but I love these trucks.
