Maybe really short notice, Kev has a mid size bore ride planned for Memorial Day.
Leaving around 10:00am (after the Tenere I should say a small bore ride)

Met up with Kevin and his wife at the BMW GS Mecca. Man there's a couple
who belong together. I mean that in a most sincere way. Two minds that think
very alike.

You can tell they are close. When she offered to take a shot of us together Kevin
gave her what I can only assume to be their secret sign of affection. So cute.

She peeled off from there and Kev and I head towards Butterfield Canyon.
Someone buy Kevin a legit speedo please. I don't know if he means to
double the speed limit at all times or he just doesn't pay attention while
focusing on power wheelies.

Anyway we just get to the canyon turn off and the KLX quits. No sign of battery life.
After sitting a few minutes I can get a faint horn sound. i push it up the road and bump
start it. Go maybe a block and the same thing. Dies and zero power. This time it's level
ground and Kev tries to push me to start it. Nope. Let it sit again and push it up the road to
get a down hill bump run. Starts and I'm out of there to try and milk it home. Sorry Kev I really
wanted to ride today. It makes it about a half mile and dies again. Something is sucking the
battery down. Plus I didn't think these needed a battery to run.

It's cell phone time and call the trailer calvary.

Once again the KLX has ended up on the side of the road. What is it with bikes that
start with a "K"? Green, Red or Orange????

I was so impressed. I had four people stop ask if I needed help and I had moved the bike
off the road by then. Maybe humanity doesn't suck after all.
Had some time to kill so went for some poser shots with the copper mine.

You can do this to a mountain, but don't let me catch you making a single track trail.

Well my son shows up, the KLX does a Harley impersonation (very convincing I might add)
and I'm headed home to mow the lawn before the party.

KLX update. I think the wire plug came off the bottom of the rectifier. I was wiggling a few
wires and it fell right off. When I plugged it in up to the retaining clip it doesn't budge.
Hope it was that simple.

Update on the XR650R

Yesterday i tore down the XR650R to put the pesky piston wrist pin clip back in, and every part in the top end of that bike was in place... Maybe i'll need to get Fano to split my case just to have a look around...

By the way, my ride this am was quite nice. I found a new secret spot

I'm sure your wife appreciates you sharing that with the ADV community.

On a different note, how was Butterfield?

help?

Anybody want to rescue an inmate, and make $100 along the way? Our jeep broke in highland, we are about forty miles from home in woods cross, and I have three passengers, danger girl and two kids. Tow truck can't take us all, and our splendid coverage will only cover six miles, thanks Geico. Call me at fgjdiendj if you are up for it. The jeep will drive onto a trailer well enough, but with a missing control arm, its not so good on the road. We havent got any family here to call, and almost no friends, advrider is the most of it since we moved here this winter.

Scrub that, tow truck is here. Fast this time, usually more than an hour.

Pissed

While all you Bitches were vacationing or breaking down on the side of the road, I was busy xplorin Southern Utah. Couldn't have asked for a couple of nicer days, temps in the 70's, and blue skies.

Saturday did a 90 mile loop from La Verkin, which was a UN free zone back in the 90's. Hit some sandy trails heading down to the Red Cliffs nature preserve.

Hit the "honeymoon trail" used by Mormon pioneer couples heading from Arizona to St. George to get married in the temple from 1872 to 1900. Didnt take any pics here. Dry and dusty, but damn fun.

Then headed up towards the Pine Valley Mountain for some trees and a change of scenery. Beautiful place.

Even GoPro'd a pic of myself. Apparently hot red Italian exotics dont break down like those Jap bikes, go figure.

Let me put about 35000 miles of WOT on yer Ape and see if she's still in the lovin' mood! How many miles on that priss? I wish I could have joined you on your ride! I want your gpx if you got 'em (I'll trade!)

Everything seem's good on my BRP , but I tore her open just to check things... Pluric's KLX is 0 for 2 when it's been out w/ me... I had a KLX 650 that I thought was too top heavy after 5 min on a BRP, so I switched. That's why I won't sit on an orange one or similar ilk.

Owww. At least my fix was free. All I can figure is when I traded the pumper carb out for the stocker
you have to unbolt the rectifier to make room. It must have pulled the wiring out at that time.

I'm beginning to think Kev is a saboteur. It is awful coincidental it only has problems on his rides.

Too damn funny.

Gotta hand it to you Kev, you're the only guy around here who primarily rides one bike day in, and day out. That XR650 has treated you well.
