Why do you want a big bike? It seems like your bike is perfect. I've never heard you post anything about any mechanical issues, it's more well rounded than a big bike, and you can pretty much ride it everywhere? It seems more reliable than those big KTM's too? What am I missing? |

I had a wonderful wrenching session on the BMW's yesterday....must have been in the breeze. Since I did oil/valves/sync in the fall, those items were not the issue. Somehow, I've never flushed the hydraulic clutch and lost it this past spring. First symptom was the catch point was closer and closer to full pull. One week of that and it evolved into pull the lever and no clutch. Those Bavarian folks are not benevolent when it comes to design and build. The end of the clutch circuit should have a bleeder nipple, but no.........it's got an aluminium tip which incorporates a check valve.....
The original Gspot FAQ's tell you to put a bleeder nipple on top of that but cap effn screw stripped out........effn aluminium being soft as pluric's ricky....so I started to think it needed replacing....wrong, you can remove it an place the grub nipple behind it on that fitting..... ![]() Turns out the K1200RS has the same aluminium fitting on the front brake circuit on the right side caliper and since I'm opening fresh DOT4 as the replacement clutch fluid, I might as well flush all four ABS brake lines....so off to the stealer....and thanks to Ryan at the remaining Sandy BMW......for a matched set of nipples to bleed the lines....Now those of you who have spilled DOT4 on anything know that you must have at least 4 damp rags covering any exposed paint or plastic cause sure as shit, that stuff will get on it and dissolve it......I think it took around the four hours Moo quoted to complete this joyful task.....and since it's been two years since my last recorded brake flush on both bikes, the fluids were looking pretty ugly......especially on the short front line of the K12 where the folks I paid at BavarianMW hadn't replaced the fitting nor flushed that section of line...... ..........looks like it's better to cuss and do it correctly yourself than to pay someone to do it halfway.........

You and Double Moo should get together. Seem to have a lot in common
when it come to dealing with anything oil related. "soft as pluric's ricky"..... damn that's like putty.

Putty is definitely less pliable than the aforementioned marshmallow... is all this oil/lube talk having an effect on Ricky?

Im headed out for a few days starting the 1st to the 5th. Planning on taking the north slope rd to the Yampa bench, then south to hook up to the kokopelli. From the bench thru the kokopelli is new for me. Lots of possibles but looking for suggestions on a cool route. Single track is ok but I dont have GPS.
Right now Im solo but a ride partner would be good.
