My lady-friend (and kids) are leaving town on Sunday--they're heading to Powell for 2 weeks with her parents. I'll be joining her for the second week, but in the meantime, I'm going on a little road trip.

Here's my route.

Custer State Park, Rushmore, Sturgis, Devil's Tower, Yellowstone, Grand Teton.

If any of you have some suggestions on what to see along the way, let me know.

I know this is a lot of slab, but I don't have a ton of time and not enough tread on the tires for dirt.

North of Green River, WY has some excellent stuff heading towards the Wind Rivers. We rode across that area in 2010.

Rushmore area has TONS of fun fire roads and nice dirt roads.

The Wyoming Grasslands, just before Rushmore, are amazingly beautiful. Take some country or dirt roads through there.

I mapped a dirt route that I was going to drive from UT to MN, through Rushmore. You're welcome to try it out if you want.

Sand, if you want it.

Did it last month... Or attempted to! As long as you are at at Yellowstone, don't miss the Chief Joseph highway, and the Beartooth highway - roll NW out of Cody and have an awesome ride!

Nope. Riding an 1150GSA w Anakee 2 tires . . . sand will not agree with me.

Thanks for the info on the dirt roads. I'll check my detailed maps before I go.

Awesome. This is exactly what I'm planning--funny. Well, not exactly since Big Chief wasn't on my radar, but it is now.

The only difference is: I'll be heading counter-clockwise and won't be dipping into CO because of my abbreviated timeline. A few months ago I went from SLC to Steamboat via Vernal--I was heading to a concert at Red Rocks--and thought it was a fantastic route.

Retro, I'd leave Ogden and go over Monte Cristo to Woodruff if I were you. Nice slab!

This won't work kuz it is sub 300 lbs. You get the 300 miles of range by doing this...twice... with the (3.4 g) 13 liter orange tank...

and for the lights ...

So neither Safari or Acerbis makes a 6g tank yet?

so if you do your map/math right, then those ass weights are an option if you need them, but i've never needed 300 miles but i only ride the western us... other continent vary i suppose. 200 miles, ya.

Acerbis has this one out. 5.3 gal. Quite new, some possible fit up issues. Looks nice, tho. I went with the 3.4 gal KTM tank to keep weight aft, not forward. Pros n cons...

I have the 3.4 on my 520 and I love it but I'll admit that I am always stretching the limits. Not quite getting harcus mileage about I think that 5.3 is the ticket actually. I did rotopax on the rear and it definitely did look cool and was functional but I still think that 5.3 is the ticket...

That 2012 EXC, again so cool...

You've never NEEDED a 300 mile range because you're planning the wrong fucking routes! Remember our friends in near Baker that gave us fuel?

If I had a 300 mile range, I'd purposely avoid gas stations. J-true, Pilo, and I did a loop last year that had well over 250+ miles before fuel. Of course, J-true breaking his arm, and Pilo's bike shitting the bed shortened it up a bit.

Taking a year off because of the new youngster and limited time. You can't leave a kid in a fenced yard, like a goat.

I'm still riding, just putting in more effort.
