I tried crossing that area once. Didn't work...........

Great idea with clutch plates though! Guess that's the advantage of identical bikes.

Thanks for a chuckle at your expense this morning. We have all been there at one point. If not ride more, its inevitable. Somewhere in the chaos, someone surely muttered "this is why they call it an adventure"

I know that mud, how you guys unstuck those 950's is a story itself. Thanks again for sharing.

So for clarification, was the mud the only route available, or did you leave the railroad grade to find that? I'm planning to do this ride for the first time this spring and just want an idea of what I might encounter. Thanks.

Hey Utahrpm, even the rail grade was bad in sections. the mud on the rail grade is what packed up and ripped my fender and abs sensor off. the lower section next to the grade was actually better then the elevated bed was....who knew?

Hey kajendog, glad i could make your day. looking back at it now i can laugh at the event. funny thing is i told my dad and he said "thats why you own and Adventure" and he just laughed ha-ha

Mine cost me:

Brake pads and rotors, front and rear
Clutch plates
Bleeding hydraulic lines
Fork seals
Various electronics

I will never (willingly) ride through mud like that again, at least not on a bike that can't be replaced - like a KLR

At one point, it took us 2 hours to travel 200 yds up a 2% grade - and that was on the graded county road. Mud was like bowling balls
