As I got closer it bounded off to the side of the road and into the brush. As soon as it started moving I realized it wasn't a bear. I thought maybe it was a raccoon, but right as I passed it I could see that it wasn't a raccoon either.

After I got home I got online to remind myself what wolverines and other predators around that size look like. I'm 98 percent sure it was a wolverine.
Are you sure it wasn't a Badger?

Yes, positive. It had a really distinctive gait when it moved, so one of the first things I checked when researching it was youtube so I could compare. I talked to a vet tech today about it as well. And I've seen plenty of badgers.

After talking to a few people I gather that wolverine sightings aren't as rare as I had been thinking. I was thinking I was all that and a bag of chips for having seen one. Someone told me they migrate through this area around this time of year.

Still, it was pretty cool to see it. Now I've seen a wolf (Lolo Hot Springs), a mountain lion (Smithfield Canyon), and a wolverine when driving at night on my motorcycle.

Trackhead and I spotted a Gila Monster on his epic 5 deserts route, and some guy posted that he's hiked that area for decades and never seen one. I do actually think that saskwatch (sp?) exists though.

Turns out AF is semi sketchy.

Does anyone have any good trail suggestions for this weekend?
