Motion X now allows you to use any custom map that you have the Map Server URL. This tutorial has a lot of the map links:

http://tlcfaq.com/main/2013/08/motion-x-custom-maps/

Won't run on the Samsung Tablets though :(

Pluric....sometimes you're not supposed to give your honest opinion..,,you're just supposed to let a guy borrow your bike and then explain to his SO why he needs to buy one just like it!

Trials skills

What you learn on a trialer is the basic skills of motorcycling which are then applicable to any other dirt or street bike made or high or low speeds.Trials champions can go into almost any other dirt bike area and be more than competitive.Experts from other dirt activities go to trials and the advanced line usually kills them off. Luckily anybody can learn anyway they choose.

I find there are 2 real advantages of the tablet:

1. The screen is big enuf that you can actually look down at it as you are riding & see if you are on the desired route

2. You can quickly do a search for another route when you run up on a blockage like a tree fall, washout, etc.

In one word - convenience.

Plus, it is really good to have a back up nav device out there just in case.

Question OT: Place to store small popup camper

I'm wondering if anyone has any land or a space where I could store a small popup camper (8' x 16') in the Salt Lake area. The lowest cost I've found at a storage facility is $40/month. I would gladly pay someone $150 - 200/year. We only use it a few times a year.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks,
Brandon

How is the Samsung in full sunlight? I have an IPad now, and I am thinking of a 7 inch tablet for the bike now that I retired the street pilot. It really depends on which apps are best if I go Apple or Droid.
The new Kindle Fire HD say they are readable in full sun and are a great price.

If I had a truck that wasn't so gutless I'd offer in exchange for a few uses a year as well!

TRIALS RIDING: I bet learning to do a handstand or an elegant cartwheel would make you a better dirt biker, too. All my mad dirt bike skills are from practicing nun-chucks.

It is OK. The screens on most pads are glossy so they pick up some reflection. The screens on Garmins are a different type that has good contrast in sunlight. However, the resolution of the pad is superior & topo maps show up very nicely. Far, far better than a Garmin. The Samsungs are about half the price of the Apple & the DSM runs only on android. I am told the Apple sw called GPS Kit functions in a similar manner but have not verified such.

I run the pad in an Otterbox for protection & attachment.

Just alternate standing on one leg with your hands over your head for the day.

Dressed this time.

New to me Bike

With perfect timing, I was able to pick up this lightly used Gas Gas 300 Raga in a snowstorm this week. The good news is I won't be out banging it up for some time with these single digit white temperatures. Maybe the sun will shine in a few weeks, who knows.

It is a bit out of the norm at 150 lbs wet. Frank sent me a training video & said all I have to do is follow the instructions & it will be a piece of cake. It won't be long before I am looking as good as Pluric. Thankfully, that is a low bar.

Let's all gather & chant to the sun gods so I can get some abuse at the hands of the gods of trials riding.
