Awesome shots Hick! I need to drag my 300 up there and go exploring with you some time!
I just had an awesome weekend of ultimate canyon chasing...Left Friday morning via Emigration canyon to East Canyon..then Monte Cristo... then up to Soda Springs ID over "Tin Cup Pass" and into Star Valley Wyoming. Then the usual route up into Teton and Yellowstone where we spent out first night. We then headed out the east entrance and into Cody Wyo to see the Buffalo Bill Museum..very cool gun collection. From Cody we headed north and took the Chief Joseph Highway to Beartooth Pass and the "Top of the World". Back through Cooke City,MT and into the northeast entrance of Yellowstone across the park to West Yellowstone and up to our camp at Quake lake. We then headed back along the western side of the Tetons and some of the most beautiful farm land I've ever seen,,,around Palisades and onto Bear Lake...then took Strawberry Canyon over to Preston and then home to SLC. A little over 1200 miles of the most scenic twisties known to me! I went with some cruiser friends, so the pace was a little slower than I would have liked, but I would usually just stop and wait at the end after tearing through a good section of curvy deliciousness. We had one gal who over shot a corner in East Canyon within an hour of leaving home!! Luckily she had just bought a new helmet and jacket and walked away from this "learning experience" with just some ass-rash (Chaps are stoopid). ![]() She wouldn't let us take a piture of her "wounds".. ![]() Lucky she wasn't going any faster!! We did make some new friends along the way... ![]() and the scenery was ... ![]() And I couldn't resist posting this shot of Buellregard at the "Top of the World" with a BMW on a trailer in the background! ![]() ![]() ![]() We saw our obligatory Yellowstone bear along the way. ![]() And I was able to get close enough for this next shot: ![]() ![]() Buellregaurd and the Muell tug cast a shadow as the sun is setting on a perfect 4th of July!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A stop at Upper Mesa Falls was a nice break from the heat! ![]() ![]() Only question now is where to next?? I'm thinking Glacier Natl Park in August... anybody interested?? ![]() Roostre screwed with this post 07-06-2009 at 01:38 PM |

So is anyone riding this weekend? I can do an afternoon/evening ride on Saturday or a Morning/afternoon ride on Sunday.
I could probably be talked into an overnighter as well, but BR will need to be the spoon.

Paiute Trail?
Anyone been on the Paiute Trail? I've been on the section above Beaver which was nice. I'm wondering if the rest of the trail is similar...

Although I ran out of daylight on July 4th, I still wanted to find the trail to the top of Blue Mountain. It is reportedly the launch site for some world-class hang gliding.
On July 5th, I sent my daughter to church with the grandparents and headed back to Blue Mountain. ![]() The launch site is somewhere up there... The trail turned into a dirt road with pea-sized pebbles. Then it became asphalt, but not all slab is bad. ![]() There was some awesome scenery along the way. ![]() It's hard to believe that I used to run across the border into Colorado all the time for beer, but never bothered to take this road...man were my priorities out of whack! I found the dirt road leading to the launch site. ![]() The hang gliders take of from here. They just run down this pebble trail until one of two forces of nature wins....lift or gravity! ![]() The first photo in this reply was taken in the valley below. The bike is now atop that twisted Navajo Sandstone. The dirt road you see in the distance travels the East side of the Green River and eventually dumps out near Fruita, Colorado. ![]() For those who like to read: ![]() For those who like to drool. ![]() I explored some of these roads atop the mountain, but started running low on gas. It's mostly free-range BLM land, so I plan to return to camp. While I was on this road, I came across a herd of cattle. I slowed waaay down (thinking of Pluric). One cow was being a bit "bullish" and wouldn't get off the trail. I got a little closer, honked, no dice. About then, I noticed a couple grapefruit-sized objects dangling between the legs...and then he (who was not a she) started to charge! ![]() I got away without incident (sorry Pluric - no close encounter with the turd kind) and meandered back down the mountain on this highway. Not too shabby for slabby. ![]() Once I got back across the Utah border, I hit the dirt again. I rode about 40 miles of Jeep trail that was more fun than a spider in your shorts. ![]() This road had some tough hill climbs on sandy Jeep tracks that would snake back and forth, but the Black Enchantress stayed upright, and I stayed on her. It also had some really fun areas where I would hit about 50mph, then all of a sudden, there would be a sweet little jump. I think I have linked together a pretty fun big-bike ride out there. I can't wait to go back. I didn't see one other vehicle once I left the road.

The following weekend I'll go to flaming gorge to meet some friends. If there are any good dirt routes between SLC and there that you guys would suggest, let me know. I am really tempted to ride there. If anyone wants to tag along, you're more then welcome to!
