I had my first ADV bumper sticker sighting today! Some FF in a big white Ford truck pulled in here at the dealership (Strong VW) with a Baja pits and ADV sticker on the back!

Yep, that was me. You were the only motorcylers I saw all day... you were going clockwise. Surprisingly few people.

You musta got started pretty early, or else you way exceeded the park's 15 mph speed limit (or is that a lower limit for speed??). Seriously, the ranger stopped me and said the speed limit's 15, but 'motorcycles need to keep their balance, so 20 is ok'. Whenever I saw anybody I slowed below 20 so nobody would squawk.

Turns out ya gotta pay either way according to Mr. Ranger. I didn't see any self-serve paybox thingies entering from Mineral Bottom road, and thought if I stayed with the bike .... But no, the Ranger hit me up at the boundary cattleguard, and sold me a pass (for $10!!). Unlike Mirror Lake highway and unlike Arches, 'just passin through' apparently costs money at Canyonlands.

Anyway I was thinkin' about the sunlight. Going CCW has the sun behind you when you're looking out over the rivers from the WRT. On the other hand, a lot of pretty sex rocks (more f'ing rocks) are inland, and the light was not so good thattaway. So I'd have to agree the main factor should be the terrain and maybe the $5 fee.

Have you ridden the Potash road?

Oh yeah, I was thinkin in my helmet about your luggage question. I don't really remember what the question was, but anyway ... comparing heavy luggage to a light load on the bigass dirtbike, I definitely feel the weight under heavy braking -- the assend wants to come around to the front. Oh yeah, rotational inhersha. Totally different. Oh well.

I won't even compare it the 218 lb 2-stroke. But if I did, one striking difference is the little one stops real fast. The big one has a very effective Go System. But whenever you test the Go, ya better be ready with the Stop System -- you're gonna need some slowdown.

We got going about 9:30 -- didn't know about a speed limit, the ranger just said 'keep it reasonable and in control'. We slowed around the mtn bikers so they wouldn't have to breathe the dust we kicked up.

Personally I like going CCW -- feels like the rockier areas are then in the beginning when you're fresh and if you run into trouble at the end there are more people/closer to the park HQ.

Dirt-bagz... i love 'em! Keeps the weight really low. I've also got a pro moto billet tail rack for the lighter stuff. It's modified to be pretty stout though.
