Cozy sidecars

Anyone have experience with them? Own one? Ridden with one? I'd love some actual thoughts on the matter. I'm thinking heavily on getting one for my KZ1000P when I move out to Phoenix - for groceries, the occassional passenger, tools, stability, and I've always wanted a hack.. especially an old style hack.

So thoughts on the Cozy, pics if you have them (I can only find stock pics)

Don't know if you saw any of these threads. I think I saw a Kaw like yours with a sidecar.

I put one on my '64 Vespa scooter. The car with the zeppilin nose.

In my opinion, they are a garbage can on wheels. Lousy paint that literally washes off, poor quality chrome parts. Nothing "bolted up" without a lot of messing around with a huge bag of weird parts(some of which I never used/figured out) included with the hack. I believe the tub itself is the same , mine was just equipped with an 8 inch wheel beccause of the scooter. Replacement part took 4 months to arrive from India.

It's a pretty lightly built sidecar for that bike. I think a Dnepr or Ural might be a better match.

Looks like a copy of the Steib LS200?
I don't know about construction quality, but I have a feeling it will be dangerously light unless you add a lot of ballast when operating sans passenger. Proper attachment (not simple C-clamps) is very important.

Dr Jim and Gizzi mounted a Cozy frame on a WeeStrom with no problems. Even with minimal balast (50lbs) and NO car (hence the balast), the Strom handled admirably.

It's not the car that's the issue, it'll be the setup. Dr Jim's the man to talk to.

The only problem I have with the Cozy is that it lives up to it's name. A normal sized gorilla such as myself has a very, very difficult time fitting it.

Cost and all included, I'll probably get a Velorex.. I'm thinking I should get it before I ride to Phoenix in July, give me more place to keep stuffs for the trip, and more time to get used to riding a hack.

Here is a picture of one we modified for a Triumph Trident. It is lowered and mounted away from the bike for stability. We DID NOT use the Cozy mounts nor th euniversal mounts offered(the universal mounts are velorex mounts). We also used a subframe on the bike. There is a provisions made to add ballast but It works well as is.
One big mistake made by new sidecairts is to get a sidecar that is too light for the bike. Heavy is better than light within reason.

Funny way to contribute to my thread asking about Cozy's... but I just bought a Velorex 563.

I recognise that my KZ1000P isn't quite what you'd think of when you think of an Adventure bike... but when you consider that I am at 24 getting ready to light off on a cross country trip to start up anew life in Phoenix while attending the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute... To me it's definately an Adventure bike. Haha, just not your average adventure I suppose - not that there is such a thing as an average adventure.

Anyways this should be good. Gotta learn to drive the damned thing.. I'm thinking I'll do most of that at about 2am, till I get confident enough to try it WITH city traffic.

Guztrienf, The plan looks good ,although I'm not aware of the straight road from west Pa. to Cally. In the real world you'll have a better trip dropping down into Maryland and West by dog then coming through Kentucky and letting me show you the Bluegrass.
I rode-drove a Sidebike 1100 Yamaha FJ from San Jose, Ca. to Ky. a few years back. Several friends around have hacks and would offer encouragement or poke fun as the need presents.
I'm on a farm and have some tools etc. if help is needed. And a spot to camp is on offer. Just sayin'

The idea is to make Phoenix in about 6 days. Then bum around a day and go visit my best friend who's going to be at Edwards AFB. Back to Phoenix, bum around for another week, then a family reunion in Boulder... so not making the West coast this trip, but I will sooner or later.

Should be quite the trip. I leave in 31 days, and I can't believe how much I have to get done before then.

Looks like you're going through Asheville. You should see how much of the Blue Ridge Parkway you can ride on your way. Sidecar heaven. (You'll think back quite fondly of the cool mountains when you hit Phoenix )
