Sidecarcross

I wish there was more of this going on over here- I'd love to watch this kind of racing! Why isn't this stuff on television? Way more fun than NASCAR!

That looks like a lot of fun - I need to make the Suzuki I covet into something like that.. It is wonderful, you can do anything in your dreams.. but, next year, the Suzy will be in my stable.

Sidecar motocross

Hiya, Yes, sidecar motocross is a brilliant sport, I raced for over 20 years, and my son Marc for a further 20 years, so we were involved in the sport of sidecar motocross both as national and international riders for some 40 odd years. There is a small contingent of very enthusiastic sidecar racers in California USA that race most weekends so I understand, and I am sure they would welcome anyone wishing to take part. I have just helped a guy (Dave) in Seattle with drawings and instruction to construct and fit a sidecar to his 625cc KTM, it is quite similar to a motocross sidecar, so he (Dave) can use it to ride the trails up in the mountains around Seattle. See KTM ENDURO USA on another page on this site to view Daves KTM enduro rig.

Best regards......Johnny W.....UK.

It would be cool to do a supercross thing with hacks also. A little dirt, a little pavement, and lots of curves!

You must mean SuperMOTO. SuperCROSS is no good for sidecars because the tracks are so tight and full of whoops and huge jumps, the sidecars can't pass or get enough speed up to be interesting. Been there, tried that. SuperMOTO would be fun. We did SuperBikers (Carlsbad), the race that inspired supermoto. That was fun, but it was 25 years ago. I've seen a video or two of some Europeans (or Brits) doing something like supermoto on motocross sidecars. It looked good. Pikes Peak Hillclimb is pretty much a supermoto-like event, though no laps, and a little short on oxygen. Still super fun!

Here's my dream supermoto sidecar, in two variations:

Supermoto

Great video Scott, I came across it sometime back. I love to show this to my solo bike riding buddies. The other Cross vids are good too. Maybe thats' why I have a tough time getting them on my sidecar. We are having a blast learning how to ride the rig. Can't hardly imagine grabbing a handful on your Pikes Peak setup. Hey! That event is coming up here soon isn't it ? I would have to lower mine a bit and get the chair sticking out there a little farther. No not this year. I have a lot of practicing to do.
All the best, Dave

I wish I could find some sidecarcross guys out here. My riding bud and I are going to convert my KLR and terrorize the our local riding group. I wish we had some outlaw sidecarcross racing here.

I remember seeing a hack racing video, about a year or so back. Took place somewhere in Europe, most likely Russia.
Bunch of 650 Urals and Dneprs, on a relatively flat dirt track, 1/4 mile or less, about 4-5 left turns, a right hand dog leg, and a right hand hairpin turn. Strictly "outlaw" track, some bikes had lights, and had been ridden in...

Somehow, I can see that working over here, with KLR650's, DR650's, even if it was combined with some pavement, ala Sumo.... But it's gonna need a starting point. A "Mecca" of sorts, with plenty of the right hacks in the area...maybe someone with access to a large feild, to layout a track. Then maybe the fever will spread....

Hey.....RED MENACE.....you listenning dude?

PS....here 'tis, here 'tis.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e9aJIuPSOg hang in there for a while, the first few minutes a kinda boring, till the nutzkie's freind turns his pet cock on...LOL!

Scott (take a 'T' off if it ain't sposed to be there),
THAT supermoto deal is it!! Sidear racing the way it shoudl be.
Back in the seventies when we lived in Florida they had a sidecarcross event at St. Pete at Sunshine Speedway. I suppose the guys were from California but not sure? It was great to watch. It was very hot out and they had a bunch of ambulanes on duty to revive the pasengers after each race. Those guys were beat. Does anyone know of this eastrern tour way back then??
Sidecar Speedway is also cool but a totally different deal.

Claud, yes a bunch from California and some from Ohio/Indiana region did an East coast series. They did it again a year or two later, but didn't go to Florida the second time. My dad and brother raced the second tour, and I was spectating. I think that might have been 1976.
