I doubt many of us can imagine the slaughter that happened here under this green grass and tourist picnic blankets. Pretty surreal.

LOL!! Yup...stayed in them just this past March-April...for pre-deployment training.

In our Bde HQ someone peeled back some paint and found a memo glued to the wall--dated 1941. Some are in seriously crappy conditions....and others are super. $$ is the key

Here's Fort Mott, NJ--Gun emplacements used around the time of the Spanish American War, at the mouth of the Delaware River, NJ. There's a huge earthworks to protect the gun carriages and ammo elevators, very, very cool:

This second one, is clearly gratuitous--no MC--spooky secret passageway at the bottom of the Tomb of The Unknown in Baghdad, Iraq:

Anyone have any of the old Nike silos in NJ---they're out there

Someone already posted this hanger near Tonopah. It's one of three still standing (or at least it was in October 2007 when these shots were taken).

Cool thread.

It's interesting to note the lack on graffitti on European sites vs US sites.

SE Wis does have an abandoned air base. It's called Bong recreational area.

Somewhat different kind of place. El Morro and San Cristobal Forts in San Juan, Puerto Rico. First tower was built in 1539 by the Spanish. Attacked by pirates, Dutch, British, U.S....pretty much anyone who had a ship in the last 500 years, it sounds like. There are several fort structures on the island around this port, and supposedly there is a tunnel complex criss-crossing the area for quick travel and defense. The U.S. stopped using it as a fort in the late 1940's after WWII.

I took these 2 weeks ago.
